Following on from another of my threads, is it acceptable to bring a gift to a first meeting? What gifts are deemed okay? Would you expect or take a gift with you?

Someone's house ....never go empty handed ....bottle of wine or chocolates or flowers is what I'd bring

House party ....the same for the hosts

Hotel....stuff to share...bottles of water,some goodies....fruit or chocolates if staying for a few hours

I was,always brought up never arrive to someone's house with one arm as long as another so when I've accommodated I've always appreciated be it a bottle of wine fancy biscuits or cutest one kitten milk cos I'd a new litter

And i would do the same if I'm going to someone's house or like u said bog for hotel some drinks and snacks

I had a couple bring flowers on a first coffee meet. We loved it!

I'd always bring something a couples house, if they are kind enough to invite us. I'd bring a bottle of wine or a nice candle.

I think gifts only work if it’s a longer term arrangement. Certainly no gifts for a first meet. But if you have a buddy you meet regularly enough then perhaps something if you meet at each others homes.

For me I used to bake the person a dessert as a surprise and I suppose you could call it a gift. They were always well received and a good ice breaker specially for those with a sweet tooth though I did do raspberry and white chocolate scones for someone who didn’t want a dessert.

On a first meet, it comes on too strong.

That person is still figuring out if they like you or not. You're clearly trying to push them to like you but it feels like pressure.

Like, they want you to feel bad about turning them down if it's not a match.

Its nice to be nice. Me personally i wouldnt bring a gift just incase someone may take it the wromg way. I would just pay for the meal or coffee that you may be having to be on the safe side.

Chocolate or something we may have spoken about. But I don’t expect a gift.

If I was going to theirs then I’d bring something.. maybe cake if it’s daytime or vino if I was staying over.. ya know..

I usually ask someone what they're drinking, if they're hosting I'll bring it. Sometimes they say thanks, sometimes they say you get yours and I'll get mine, sometimes they offer to get mine. It's always different. Asking is a pretty good tactic xx

To be fair I was in a VERY good mood that morning.

I don't mean I never spring for the cheque just that I don't believe in the tradition that because I'm a guy I always should.

I've had coffees, meals, and even hotels covered and I've really appreciated it too.

Whatever feels right in the moment is usually fine.

I haaaaate the assumption that the guy should pay for coffees/meals/hotels/whatever. It’s nice for a meet to offer to pay for your coffee but just as nice that you offer to pay for theirs.

Gifts…not from a random person. If it was someone I knew and it was based on a conversation or something then all for it. Otherwise, feels a bit weird.
