Very few females in the trade so I think a female tradesperson on fab is like the elusive unicorn.

Genuine question to all the trades listed here... why is it so hard to get bloody hold of yous? Moved a few months back, have a whole tone of stuff needing done, have rang multiple trades people and can't seem to get any responses. (It's almost as bad as trying to get a response here on Fab lol). Is it the time of year? Supply versus demand or what?

I know 5 blocklayers I used to work with pre recession. All 5 are now in different jobs. None came back after the recession. I've seen one appreciate mason in last ten years. Quite simply not enough tradesmen to go around imo. A lot of younger ones are in Australia.

the trades are here just after covid they realised the travelling isnt worth it with time spent on the road and missing on local stuff because of the traveling theres more money on staying within a hour drive from home and get to go home to family before they head to bed.

Supply and demand. People expect to pay trades peanuts so the trades don’t work. I’d rather spend 3 days working for top dollar than 5 days pleasing other people for low rates. Takes years to get qualified, fortunes on tools, and experience saves people money.

Trades are there for you, however you’ve to pay for them. Easiest trade in the world is painting and a good painter is getting €250 a day.

Learn a trade.

Talking about pricing, often when I try to charge for a photoshoot I get the usual question ‘why so much? followed by ‘you’re just taking a photo!’ But as with all other trades insurance, cost of transport, upgrading equipment, subscriptions such as photoshop, as well as the years of learning and upskilling - and when I’m finished taking the photos the work has only begun. I am a professional and take pride in my work as well as being good. But the problem I have is others new to it undercutting the price to get a foot in the door - and worse those who think they can take a good photo.

Rant over!

A goldsmith works with gold, silver and other precious metals and precious/semi precious stones.

A jeweller is a person who has a retail outlet !

Could be a goldsmith but maybe a horologist or just sells and is neither !!
