I think some folk have Tourettes or nervous ticks the amount of winking that goes on

I don't really bother with them anymore unless something about the profile really draws my interest. I think people wink when they don't fit your criteria but want to draw your attention anyway.

I can't see what the big taboo is about winks.

I still use them, usually as an icebreaker or that I appreciate their profile and/or pics.

If I receive one back then I'll approach a little more (so to speak)
