Got notification that I am being considered for redundancy today. It's a prosperous company with no money issues, but my role is going to be out sourced.

Any advice?

See what the proposed package is

Hear what they have to say, see if you think they are being truthful, the fact that the company is making money doesn't mean the can't make your redundant

Start looking around either way

Ig you are self employed, as per your bio, I'm not sure how you can make yourself redundant.

Is it a case of " first in first out".....

🤔

See can you sub contract off them for the same role

If the OP is working for himself, as he says in his bio, and he makes himself redundant and then re-employes himself as a sub-contractor that mighr sort out the outsourcing aspect of things but I'm not sure what exactly it achieves overall.

Or is it just a case of updating the CV.

🤔

Person can be self employed and employed at another company at the same. depends on the hours.

Shit that they are outsourcing your role. See what your package for leaving is like, don't leave before they let you go regardless. If they employed you and let you go, you should be able to claim social welfare for a bit.

To clarify, I am employed and also do some work for myself. Which is the only thing I mentioned on here.

Unfortunately my side work isn't enough to keep me going.

......

Thank you for clearing up the ambiguity.

At your age and in the current "full employment " situation you can use this as an opportunity to bank some cash and move on to one of the many new job opportunities that are out there at the moment.

Or maybe this is an opportunity to develop your self employed situation to become your sole source of income.

Having been made redundant 3 times over my working life I always used it to as an opportunity to move on to something better.

The world is your oyster, update your CV and go find yourself a pearl.

Make your own good luck.

🤞 👍

I’m not sure if the legality of making someone redundant and then outsourcing the role. I’m almost certain that that is not allowed. And if someone is made redundant then their position may not be filled again for a certain period ( I think 6 months or maybe 12 months) I’m not sure if the original person has to be rehired if they are available.

Maybe someone who is more knowledgeable on the subject can advise.

Sorry to hear about the potential redundancy… it’s not all bad though, you might get a good package that can be used to kick start your own business. If it’s a good package there’s lots you can do.

The company you’re with can also offer you the same role with the outsourcing company if it is within Ireland and your terms and conditions are protected as you’d transfer under TUPE. You can ring citizens information and they will talk you through options. Hope this helps

From my understanding and experience of such, the conpamy can made you redundant and out source the role. Company I was with made a few of us redalundant 2011 due to the crash. They out sourced the roles as they couldnt guarantee us the work/hours and with out sourcing they where able to in essence book when and how long they needed the out sourced companys workers for per month based on the work comming in. It also depends on the role you ar doing, if you took on extra work to cover a colleague who left , moved to another department or they can say they are out sourcing to stremline the business model and to ensure the financial future of the compamy.

get a calculation of the tax deducted from your lump sum. companies rarely get it right and as a result nearly always overtax people. people are getting a large amount of money and dont think twice that it could be more in their pocket as a result.

Spot on...TUPE (Transfer of Undertakings and Protection of Employment) would normally apply here especially if you have a good relationship with your employer and are a seen as an asset & good worker.

You should investigate your rights to TUPE by booking in a session with your solicitor or legal advice via the likes of Citizens Advice if you don't have a solicitor. Start reading up on TUPE and if you know any HR experts or Employment law experts approach them. Best of luck I have been on both sides of the equation over the years and it can be scary at first. I also acted as an advocate to others going through the process so it's important to do your research now.
