"gis a poke love"

..could get you a black eye in some places Was in that there London last week and fancied an ice cream, so (as you do) asked the young lady behind the counter for a poke.

Thought she was forrin and said it again rather loudly and then it dawned on me..

I did get my ice cream, but have vowed to remember some of our local sayings may not just be understood elsewhere

Anyone else manage to do that?

Just outside it (Monkstown) But down here in the sticks there are a few that call them pokes - the people that run the genoa in warrenpoint (and Newry) were from belfast I think and they would call it that.
