A town near you

Unusual question but a broad spectrum of folk here.

What are peoples experiences of getting a brace in the North vs South in terms of price and quality and recommendations.

Have a teen that needs braces !

"Teen should be able to get them under the hse here "

They were assessed and did not meet the criteria so we need to go private

One of our twins got the bottom half of his braces in last week he's only 10 so it's all done through the NHS otherwise it would be expensive

We're expecting it to run I to the thousands.

We have heard that's it's cheaper in the North.

To save time on doing research we're hoping to get some advice here (Not the most obvious forum to post but we're hoping the good people of fab can help)

From a little research it looks to be around the 6000 mark for top and bottom set

I had to get three of my kids fitted with braces. Granted it is a few years ago.

I got it done in Enniskillen solely because it was the nearest orthodontist to me at the time.

There are a few in Sligo now and a new one in The Canopy. shopping centre.

Any orthodontist will give you a quotation after a quick inspection.

Hello again by the way

My daughter had hers done.. top and bottom.. €3500 private ortho, braces on for 18minths her teeth are fabulous.

I’m considering having mine done at the ripe old age of 53…

I've honestly no idea on regards to quality but I know that my dentist has a long list of clients from almost every county in Ireland and a large proportion of those travel to have braces fitted and maintained.

He regularly has families who travel up the night before and stay locally and even with the travel costs and accommodation it's much cheaper.

somewhere

From memory it's much cheaper in the north

My daughter needed a set and she's a very bad traveller in a car so we stayed local but a dental practice in Newry was half the price

Thats very reasonable imo, would love mine done too but might work out cheaper to get them all pulled and get falsies at my age 😬😬

My 14 yr old son had them done last year in Sandymount. Top set for €3000. Great job. Seriously considering getting mine done in the new year

Same for my tweenager, ended up going private- as we have to do with lost public health services here.

As far as I know in the North, teenagers up to age 16 can get them done on NHS ,after that age you have to foot the bill.

Thanks for the posts guys.

We will of course be doing our own research and pricing up places, but always good to hear other people's experiences.

There's always an assumption that things are cheaper across the border

One thing to bear in mind is that you'll probably be going for check-ups every six weeks or so, regardless of the length of time they're on, anywhere between 12 and 24mths.

Dublin

found private dental care in NI to be of excellent standard and about 1/3 to 1/2 less expensive for same proceedures as in the south. - yes can be a hassle to travel but im close to a motorway and occasionally had the pleasure of staying over with friends... (you know who you are, you sexy beasts!)
