"I spent my morning teaching my young teenager how to iron shirts. Saying its a life skill he needs. (Yes eye rolling and moaning was part of it). Is there a life skill you wished you'd learned or been taught. For me it's... Change a plug. Gardening Basic plumbing or knowing better measurements... sky remote anyone =6 inches. Or perhaps a life skill you're glad you have. " Never been easier to learn any skill. Why just wish?

"When I was a kid an ad on the telly for wallpaper paste used to astound me Guy in overalls stuck to a board with wallpaper paste that was hanging from a helicopter up in the air My dad used to pull out the kitchen table Have all his rolls of wallpaper ready to go and his bucket of paste with a big painting brush He'd be up and down his stepladder all day He'd actually fold the cut sheets that he'd pasted over his arm and fit each one with precise movements into the correct position and move them on the wall before they'd dry He was brilliant and I've always wanted to give it a go The first house he did it for me so they'd be right But every house since I've lived in has painted walls Don't think I'm ever going to wallpaper a room " Do it. So satisfying! Do a chimney breast or small area first. Get paper that edges don't have to match.

"I cannot overstate the importance of knowing 3 blind mice on a recorder is all I'm saying. When I left the roost my dad gave me his old hammer which is well over 60yrs old now, and a few other bits, screwdrivers etc. He always wanted me to be independent and self reliant and I believe it was a symbolic gesture more than anything else as I'd stand well clear if I'm holding a hammer. There's a huge amount I'm not good at but he taught me how to play to my strengths. Having had a number of flatmates in my younger years, it always surprised me how some people can't cope too well cooking or cleaning for that matter. Thankfully you only leave the pizza on the plastic base and oven cook the lot till its a oozing mess, once. F@#k I hate ironing." The blind mice is a must! 😂😂 I don't eat pizza or cheese 🙈 I'm getting there with the cooking (airfryer). Oohhh any chance you could iron a few t-shirt's for me 🙈😂 don't hit me with that hammer please..

"I like to think I'm fairly good on the life skills front, although I did find out recently that it's no bloody good knowing how to change a tyre if your car has one of those canisters of sealant stuff that needs to be connected to an air compressor to reinflate the tyre " I was right about you driving home all those years ago ....that bloody wheel

Is there a life skill you wished you'd learned or been taught. For me it's... Change a plug. Gardening Basic plumbing or knowing better measurements... sky remote anyone =6 inches. Or perhaps a life skill you're glad you have. " Things I was taught by my dad: - Changing a tyre on a car (including knowing where to put the Jack before lifting, putting the spare under the car near the Jack encase the Jack fails and then replacing that with the flat), checking the oil, changing bulbs in the car, checking water level, level of coolant, changing windscreen wiper blades to name a few car things. - Learning left is loose and right is tight “lefty loosy, righty tighty”. - Learning to drive by 16, license by 17, full license by 18. - Calling the Airport to confirm a flight landing time (predating internet checking). Mom: - Learning to use the dishwasher, washing up after cooking so you don’t have to do it after eating. - learning in power outages that gas cookers can still be used with a lighter. - How to use a washing machine - Learning to cook dishes and actually cook rice from scratch. - Knowing when and when not to respond. - Learning about the imperial system (saved my ass a few times in math class in college). Things I wish I learned but didn’t until I ran my own business. - Pensions and how important they are to start early. - Revenue number and how helpful they are on the phone. - Setting up monthly tax payments to offset the final bill. - Nearly everything is a tax write off with enough imagination. Things I wish I learned: - Survival skills in the wild (setting up camp, starting a fire etc). Things I taught myself: - Unassembling and reassembling items to learn how to fix them (vacuum cleaner, old school play station memory cards, dodgy electronics in vehicles). - How to use Google effectively.

"Once asked my 20 yr old daughter to load and put on the dishwasher Came home a few hours later to find bubbles coming out of the machine and filling the kitchen with the dogs barking at it She put fairy liquid in the machine " No joke, I did this once and it was hilarious until the thing didn’t work anymore. I spent hours googling how to fix it and what the error meant. After more hours of clearing out said bubbles and mopping and using a blow heater to dry the floor, it worked perfectly again.. So yeah.. 🙈🤣

"One life skill I wish I was good at is the ability to b#ll shit......it appears in most work places the ability to BS seems to be more important than being able to actually do the job " Ah yes, it’s an invaluable tool in most professions.. knew a guy who was a pro and would go around “looking busy” rather than being busy, got promoted and there was me, actually being busy and being refused more than once.. I left that job suffice to say.. Learned something though, always know your worth.

There are adjustable feet underneath, after that follow badgers advice and if all else fails. Ring who you bought it off as there will be a warranty on it.

Well spotted about it being level....otherwise it will rattle itself to death or even chase you around the kitchen/utility room.....

"God. Loads... Anything to do with cars Anything to do with how money ACTUALLY works Gardening and growing veg Anything to do with plumbing Basic DIY tips and fix-it's I really feel strongly that some of this stuff should be compulsory at second level school." The money one is finally coming to me at my fecking age. If I'd known then and all that, but agree should be taught at schools. Makes you wonder why it isn't.

"I learned most practical skills like electric, plumbing, welding, woodworking and motor mechanics from my father who could fix just about anything. I learned housekeeping, cooking and painting and decorating from my mother and grandmother. I learned about farming and horses in particular from my uncle. I failed to learn how to play the guitar despite my older brothers best efforts, a skill that I would dearly love to have. I learned the ability to deal with both success and failure from a lifetime of giving it my best shot. " The guitar is ,like the t-shirt says, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, never ever give up , enjoy every minute of it ,Sting said " Music is it's own reward " ..start again tonight, who da F**k cares what you sound like , pick it up & off you go, 🎸🎵🎶🎼

"Essential life skills that I think every person should have: Sewing - buttons, hems, seems, patches, stitching - clothes won't change that much Cooking - how to know when something is fully cooked, basic flavourings - everything else can be picked up from repice books DIY - basic use of tools - everything else is a YouTube video away Car Mechanics - oil change, bulb change, filter change, wiper change, tyre change, importance of servicing - average person will never actually do much more Computer Use - importance of privacy & personal security, how not to be a dick online, how not to be a troll online, what not to click on ever (online ads, popups, etc ) - leave hardware stuff to the shop Home Life - hygiene, clothes washing, general tidying & cleaning, importance of the previous three, how to cohabit with other people - everything else you pick up along the way I think if you have those covered going into your twenties, you'd be fairly set. ° ♀️♂️⚧️🦄🐉🌈" You mentioned some things I would have imagined be the basics and others where I didn’t know how to do until my early 30’s lol..

"...being resourceful and persistent, responsibility, teamwork and respect and all life skills ... that's why my children have been scouting for several years ... they learn everything there ... from ... washing, cooking, making a bed, keeping order .... lighting a fire, building a hut, first aid, reading a map, setting directions in the field, knowing knots and many others ... how to cope in every situation and in every condition ... cut off from the internet and technology ..." Good and sound advice.
