I'll usually open ones from people I'm already chatting to whenever I see them.

Sometimes I'm not in the mood to deal with messages, or feel much like chatting to new people - I might just want to mooch round the forums - in which case I just ignore my inbox.

If I have a message from someone I like the look of, I do sometimes read then mark unread again because I might prefer to reply when I'm better placed to message back, or if I want to take a better look at their profile etc.

I'll generally open them and reply straight away. They're a rarity to be fair, sure I only love seeing that little yellow '1 unread'

If I can't give a proper reply whether it's being busy working or out and about/around company, I'll usually give it a quick read and mark it back unread and return to it.

I talk an awful amount of waffle to be honest so the replies aren't usually something to be waiting on with great anticipation

Like every male on here there is something about that rush you get when you see that little yellow box appear up top, so usually I would open as soon as I see it.

I never mark as unread. I feel it’s disrespectful to someone who has taken time and effort to message me. I generally always reply but there have been times I haven’t.

Saying that, I’m not exactly bombarded with messages and I very rarely receive nasty/abusive follow ups and if I did I would maybe change my behavior.

Depends on my form and how busy I am otherwise.

Sometimes I'll open mails straight away from people who I dont really know or am not that interested in because I'm bored and fancy a chat.

Sometimes I leave people I find intriguing on read because I just don't have the head space for chats outside of important stuff (work/family)

I'll only mark something unread after I've read it if I intend to reply when I have more time or mental energy to give a coherent reply

I usually open and try and reply straight away if I can. If they’ve bothered to take the time to mail me or reply, the least I can do is reciprocate. To me, I suppose it’s just down to manners however I also can understand people who receive a tonne a mail and they can’t reply to everyone or the mail just gets lost but if you’ve an interest in someone, you will reply. If you’re in a mail thread, you can just go into your mail and see their reply without opening their one. Sneaky I suppose but I’m sure some do it. 🙈

Hehe I do this too. If I'm interested and id rather they think I just didn't read the message yet, than I read it but didn't bother replying.

I'm never quite sure if reading it and then marking it as unread will mark it as unread for us or for both parties .

If its a 3rd nessage and I haven't replied to the previous 2 messages - block and delete

Same. Surprised it took until this far in the thread to mention this method. Fab messages go to my throwaway email address so I usually see them there first.

Before I set up my filters I got a steady stream of shite messages from guys. I’d typically mark these as read as soon as time allowed, but I never delete messages: it just feels unnatural to me in a world where computer storage is abundant. However, perhaps I should though, since I’ve come to realise that leaving people “on read” unintentionally sends a mixed signal. Less of an issue now though after setting my filters.

I still usually mark messages as read as soon as I’m able to, even if I’ve screened the message via my email inbox. The main exception is when I receive a message that I want to reply to: for those I’ll only read it once I’m ready to send a proper reply, which is sometimes not right away.

I do very little messaging on here anyway, so it’s not exactly a lot of work to keep on top of it.
