wouldn't you like to know

Just like the last two years, I'd like to start a thread to talk about depression and anxiety.

For many this is the time of year were things get tougher.

Rainy days, dark evenings, cold long nights.

Many know I'm more of a chirpy nature but yes I've my struggles too and even thought one year that my car would look good wrapped around a tree. But I lifted the phone and dialled the number of the Samaritans, a friend had given me the card somewhat fell out of his wallet by accident so he said. I think he knew I may need it.

So everyone, what helps you this time of the year to cope ?

Walks ? Reading ? Art ?

And for anyone who is not yet at a point where they know how to cope, please speak to a health care professional, a friend or family member or ring one of the many hotlines. You are not alone !

Also, my inbox is always open.

What a nice message. I suffered many times and I have to say that sea dipping has been a saviour. It's bloody hard to do in the winter and getting in is not easy but it's the benefits afterwards that I find incredible. Well done on the thread.

Even just having this post for some people helps. They know that they aren't alone, that there are people who they can talk to, here or professionally.

Talking to a professional helps, even close friends and then even complete strangers. I was in a dark place a few months ago, but through some counselling, opening up to friends and when just escaping here through the forums and chats have helped me considerably!

Great post and a gutsy one too. Be proud of yourself for sharing.

None of us know what is in store for us each day. I love waking up and when I moan to myself about that I get up, stand up and consider myself the luckiest person on earth. There are so many that dont wake up or cannot get up.

I smile at myself in the mirror every morning. Try it! We are all gorgeous in our very own way so love yourself.

Give compliments everyday as they will make someone else feel good. Try it and see how good you feel when you smile at someone, pay them a compliment and they smile back. Its such a great feeling.

We have no control over the seasons, weather or the length of the day so its not worth you energy to consider it. You can always dress to go outside whatever the weather so do it. Get some exercise and try surround yourself with trees and breath. Its vital for your mind.

I might sound like the biggest hippy you have ever heard but beating terminal illness has guven huge perspective. Possessions matter not a jot and be very grateful for the people that care about you and waking up evety morning.

Well done on posting this thread OP.

Everyone goes through difficult times in life. The key is to recognize your own vulnerability and speak openly with your GP about how you feel. With a little help such as mild medication and some therapy sessions you will get through the tough stuff and the experience will make you stronger.

Hi I don't know you but that's a heartfelt message and you should be proud.

Melatonin tablets to help lack of daylight, walking at work break when possible and trying to get a couple of cheap long weekends in the sun from November-mid Feb for natural vitamans certainly help me.

I'd implore people to go to sporting events to feel the energy of being around people/people who share the same love for something it can create good endorphins.

Ireland womens team playing in tallaght in October 29th a near example.

One of the best things I love about the winter early nights time is the Christmas Lights.

They are such a pick me up.

Another thing that helped me last year was a lot of socials on fab. So many lovely people and some amazing events.

Like some of you mentioned above, Fab also helps me to escape.

But as we seen on this Forum over the past while, it can drag you down further too.

Please don't let it. Take a Fab break or if feeling strong enough, rise above what or who bothers you here.

In the end, you do you. Your own mental health needs to come first.

Having my family all over the place, christmas was lonely. Then I met friends at the start of december. Oh it was such a joy. Now it has become anniversary season. Back to doh!

Seeing my closest even fir a coffee helps so much. We help each other mentally.

However, sometimes professional help is very much needed. And I have the worry about burdening my already burdened friends.

Lolly, you biatch, I teared up a little seeing this post.

Let it out people, in whatever way you can. Healthily.

I have withdrawn a bit from actual fabbing. Few gut punches recently.

But I'll shall bounce back. It is within all of us to.

FairPlay OP. For anyone that gets very low down in the dumps and is full of pain and can’t see no way out other than taking your own lift. Remember this. That pain your bravery battling will be passed onto family and friends if you do take your own life. It won’t go with you. Remember you are not the only battling and you’re not alone. Strength doesn’t mean your not tired, it doesn’t mean your not in pain, it doesn’t mean your not exhausted, strength means that you have the strength to keep going, it’s about getting knocked down and getting up after it.

I always wonder though when people say they are there for you are they actually though.

I've struggled for last 15/16 years, I'm a lot more aware of my triggers or when a low point is coming.

Funny thing is when I say thst I struggle with depression, the usual answer I get is omg really, your always so happy, so positive great for doing things and helping people.

And yet I wonder who's there for me

Unfortunately those that you think should be there for you to open up to won’t really be there for you. I opened up to the wrong person that didn’t want to know, made things in my head worse
