A town near you

What would you choose to do with the 13 billion owed by apple in tax to the state it you were in government?

Me I would make sure it is well invested into cancer units throughout the country along with tryen to sort out the homelessness and housing problems and invest more into tryen to getting this children's hospital completed in a much faster timeframe.

Mental health could do with maybe more facilities throughout the country too

We've a national debt of over 200 billion. Some of it needs to help pay off a percentage of that. Then some infrastructural investment.

As said, pay down debt. If it’s used to prop ip other departments now what will happen next year when that €13 billion isn’t available.

As far as I know the money can only be used to pay down the national debt

However we haven't a hope of collecting the 13 billion in full

Every other country in the EU at the time is now going to sue Ireland for their share of missed taxes based on sales of Apple products in their country

France will probably be in first with a claim

There is already an agreement in place that the 13 billion will go into an EU Pot.

Whatever the government do with it, and you can't please everyone. I would just like to thank the successive FFG governments who fought tooth and nail like never before, on our behalf, to avoid getting this huge sum of money that a number of courts said we were entitled to.

10yrs for planning in this country? You're a beacon of positivity!

We can't even get planning to build a road around Galway

Fusion would probably be commercially viable by the time we'd get planning for Fission in this country!

I think it’s best that I hold onto it for safe keeping until such time as we can all agree on how best to spend it. It’ll be in safe hands

On a side note and completely unconnected anyone have a contact at gulfstream jets

Most electricity in France is generated for many years by nuclear power......safe, efficient, no carbon emissions and much much cheaper for consumers.

I don't have a problem with a nuclear power plant and have been in 2

The nimbyism would be incredible to stop it

Then BAM construction could step in and offer to build it for 1 million plus extras

We are a wealthy country, if we wanted to finance a nuclear power plant we could easily raise the finance on the international money markets, same goes for infrastructure of all kinds. The 14 billion including interest should be used to generate wealth for the long term benefit of the Irish state.

Or we could stick it all on black at Vegas and hope for the best.

The state can’t allocate it to any one project and have it as a significant funder of any project. The press would be all over it ‘We should’ve had this road/hospital/tunnel years ago if you’d taxed Apple correctly! Shame! Resign!’ This ‘windfall’ is a PR nightmare for them. Can’t hide it in the accounts or the press will ask where it is, can’t spend it on anything big or they’ll be hung for it.

On a lighter note, I’d spend it on buying all the uninhabited islands, remove all the invasive wildlife and plants and let them be wild again and return to nature. Be refuges for birds and sea creatures. Most of them are stuffed with goats and sheep for the summer that eat the places bare.

the right side of the river

The state plundered our pension reserve fund to pay off bankers who gambled with our money and lost.

Why not put it into the pension reserve fund. Instead of pushing the retirement age out to 70 or whatever their plan is. ( they would much rather we work and pay tax right up until we die)

Here and there

The people that bailed out the banks of this Country to the tune of €63 BILLION through USC's & pension levies should be repaid in full since 2008 & Both stopped immediately BUT that ain't gonna happen , the ordinary workers will continue to be flecced, while the Government fiddles, not only while this country burns but they will continue to fiddle to feather their own nest, politicians retire as multimillionaire's & they don't give a fuck about the ordinary people, every day they wake up with the opportunity to help people but they choose not to , their actions are proof of this ...like the song says " 🎵same as it ever was 🎵 "

Put it towards the handouts of free medical, transport, food , accommodation and training courses for all the immigrants flooding the country

Don’t worry about the Irish homeless people or the Irish that can’t afford to pay their own bills or feed themselves never mind get a doctors or hospital appointment

You live in one of the best off countries in the world, with decent education systems, health systems, generous welfare systems and opportunities everywhere you look for personal advancement. Let's be real, if you are unable to feed yourself in this state you are definitely the problem not some poor person who has arrived at our shores in need of our help and assistance.
