Very sad news about the lady killed by her ex partner in Malta. So many women in this position of intimidation and harresment. Very sad outcome for her.

Thinking of those who are brave to make the break and move forward in safety.

It's just so shocking.

One in four women in Ireland who have been in a relationship have been abused by a current or former partner.

41% of Irish women know someone in their circle of family or friends who have experienced intimate partner violence.

6% of Irish women have experienced sexual violence and 31% of women have experienced psychological violence by a current or former partner since age 15

12% of Irish respondents in the study had experienced stalking (including cyber-stalking).

Since 1996, 267 women have died violently in the Republic of Ireland (up to August 2024).

Of the women that were killed:

63% were killed in their own homes.

55% were killed by a partner or ex (of the resolved cases)

Almost 9 in 10 women knew their killer

For balance, men who are suffering from domestic abuse should refer to mensaid.ie or contact the National Confidential Helpline on 01 554 3811, it's not 24 hours I believe but I assume there's an answering service etc and there are support services available.

I was in a marriage like this for 26 years until I finally found the courage to leave. 10 years later, I'm living my best life. SHE was a violent d*unk...people who now know ask me , why I didn't hit her back, why I didn't leave earlier. Only those who have been in my shoes, Male or Female can understand...

These stats are so scary. This topic should be talked about daily in the media, in families, in social groups.

Ireland has a dire history (much v recent history) of abuse of women.

Unfortunately we all know someone who is abused and we all know an abuser .

Until we are fully open and men stand up and be fully honest and openly admit we, asba group, need to make those of us who are abusers know they wont he supported the problem will live on.

Men need to police men .

Everyone needs ti know the numbers for thier local womens refuge and where possible support them financially .

It is time Ireland Spoke up!
