You’ve got a disenfranchised youth ripe for radicalization. You’ve got a easy scapegoat. You’ve got far right actors willing to stoke the flames to further their own agenda. And you’ve got years of inaction from politicians who seem more interested in staying in power rather than fixing communities.

I don’t know much about it tbh but I feel it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Troubling times!

Well said. It's a terrifying combination of issues coming together. Non-irish families in problem areas must be scared to leave the house.

It is fucked up. So upsetting.

Peace is a fragile thing and needs to be tended to like a precious flame, with everyone invested in protecting it and never taking it for granted.

This is not just a government issue.

Peace is what everyone needs to survive and thrive, we all have a role to play in maintaining it. That's why it's an essential blessing, 'peace be with you', and a cringy Miss World cliché.

Social media is having an awful lot of influence on people I've noticed. Many influencers such as tate and Robinson spreading misinformation to fan the flame after the unfortunate incident in Southport. Add in the youth of today finding an excuse to run riot and you have a powder keg ready to explode.

Ah yeah, Tommy Robinson. Sorry, Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. Cries foul when media track him down at his Ayia Napa hotel because it's disrupting his family holiday time over in Cyprus, where he's spent the previous days encouraging attacks on immigrant families in hotel in the UK. Travels on an Irish passport. Grifter of all grifters, the man is scum of the earth.

The Tate fella, I think there's just something extremely psychologically wrong with him.

You may want to look at that again. Irish people are entitled to the full range of benefits the same as English citizens are, if the are living and working in England. Even after Brexit Irish people have freedom to travel, reside and work in the UK.

There's a very romantic view of what Irish people got up to when they arrived in America or The UK

If there was a scam going then we knew how to pull it and it was passed around as many Irish as possible

How many Irish went to The UK with a few different birth certs in their back pockets in the 80's

I remember a pub in London that put a telephone extension into the back room that didn't realise every Irish person made free phones calls home by plugging in a phone from Argos

We were doing the exact same thing some people accuse refugees of doing now

Thats just romantic notions!

They begged, borrowed, stole, defrauded, committed crime and evaded tax enmasse, in order to succeed!

Ask any man that was in the likes of London in the 60s and 70s and you'll get some stories, unreal what went on!

Decided to stay at home this weekend as things were pretty rough here in Belfast. After 10 years living here, last weekend showed a side of NI that I never thought I would see.

Can't say I feel safe. Luckily I have the ability to work from home.

Many times these cash in hand no questions asked jobs were off the books no tax paid. Tax fraud is taken very seriously.

The reason many asylum seekers here don't work is because they aren't allowed. Many would be delighted to be able to take up work and be allowed to support themselves.

No not claiming the dole, just not paying tax and robbing an theiving instead!

One man I know tells me story of how he went to visit his older brother. Going to a race meet, driving down the road with brothers friend they pulled up and we're walking around a quite street, looking into a building site. He was young and naieve, didn't realise they scoping it out to rob machinery and equipment...and they later did!

Countless Irish "businessmen" legged it out of UK over the years owing thousands of pounds in taxes!

It wasn't just that they were cash off the books, but there was often fraudulent documents claiming self-employed,etc and they'd disappear after a few months.

Irish contractors were notorious for taking tax and prsi from wages and not paying it on, leaving men without any stamps years later!

Not slagging them at all. But let's not pretend they went around handing out lolli-pops either!

Many of them pushed through barriers of hate to create a world where the Irish are respected. I hate to see any sort of racism or xenophobia towards immigrants in this country, without whom many of our industries and public services would struggle to survive.

Particularly when a lot of the so called anger here is propagated by outside influences, as we've seen recently.

Maybe you're not familiar with the concept.... but generally when you work you pay tax, and that tax is used to pay things like the dole. No tax = no dole. This whole "irish went to other country's they got nothing" thing is nonsense.

Well this is bullshit.

Too many mangled inaccuracies to attempt to address, but whatever support is given to people fleeing persecution is available to our own citizens too... some areas are getting increased services that benefit locals as well as catering to the needs of people displaced by war etc.

And many many new arrivals can't access anything like this, but are either homeless, in hostel type temporary provision or moved from pillar to post. And there's no way people can work without stable accommodation, even if they were allowed, so it's a vicious cycle.

I'm not saying it's right. Sadly it was only a matter of time, before something like what's happening now, happened. All the homeless people that's in this Country/island North & south. Can't do anything for them, apparently. Put yet loads is being done for the people that's coming into this Country/island now. Without any problems. As was said already the locals are being treated as second class citizens, or at least that's the way it feels anyway's.

As for fighting for independence & a civil war 100 or more year's ago. Sadly that didn't last very long. As the EU is really calling ALL the BIG shots.

This how it happens. This is how fascism rises. The fear of people different. The persecution and dehumanising and creation of an "infidel" other. The blaming of all our issues on someone else, rather than looking at ourselves. The "hard man" leaders who tell the scared population to rise up.

Why don't the people protesting and rioting go volunteer with homeless charities. Or protest outside government buildings. Or protest long before the recent surge of immigration when there was still a massive homeless crisis.

Or protest with words of solidarity for the homeless and the displaced Immigrants who are all suffering the same plight but from countries with no means or desire to help them.

Its because the instigators thrive on division and hate even more than the established political class
