Wouldn’t walk up and ask a stranger. Maybe in a bar I could but it would be more like can I buy you a drink. But many’s a time I’ve met someone I knew and just asked if the fancied a coffee but nothing ever came out of it and personally for me those times it was just about company.

It’s all in the delivery…don’t get in her space, strike up a casual convo first instead of launching in with asking for a date, project a warm, friendly persona and be gracious if she says no. Don’t be weird about compliments, keep them general instead of comments about her body.

Ah back to the 90s when we weren’t tied down by screens! Dove here I used to love when this was the way to pick up people. An art that’s gradually being lost, as an extremely shy woman I would never orchestrate it.

Himself though is far from shy and it’s how we met. He walked straight up to me and started chatting away and here we are still together 24 years later!

Id be fine approaching someone I liked 1 on 1. The problem is that most people go out with a group of friends, and it's way harder approach when someone is deep in craic and conversation already. I would consider it rude to interrupt.

Back in the days before Internet dating we would go to a pub and then maybe a night club and approach someone we found attractive and chat them up and hopefully get a date lined up or maybe a quickie lol

I enjoy this , I find it far easier in different countries than Ireland. I've never had a problem making the first move and if there's no interest I have no problem dealing with that either.

I always think it’s easier to say hello in the relaxing world of shopping and it’s less of a chat up

I do quite well on dating apps but I just could not be bothered talking for any longer than a couple of days - if I’m interested I usually ask to grab a coffee pretty soon.

I would approach a girl on a night out, but I could never on a regular old day out.

I like this. I'm far to shy to approach anyone but I've no problem with anyone trying to strike up a conversation with me. As you said, it's lead to enjoying the company of some very interesting people.

It's a fine line between flirting and sexual harrassment in the eyes of HR. I am not speaking from experience, I've never been lucky enough to be sexually harassed at work, even when I worked as a stripper.
