Do you get caught up in election campaigns

Up to yesterday I was keeping an eye on the locals and European elections....reading everything in the door from the candidates and reading the news online

Now after The Tories self imploded and Sunak gets the wet suit look I'll be digesting that election instead

Do you bother or are you not arsed

Favorite bit is the count centres

I don't get too bothered about the local elections really. Just a few people who don't really care about the locality, just want to make the next step to be a TD. I pay close enough attention to the general elections alright. These people have all the power to shape the immediate and distant future so more care is needed picking those people.

Yeah I do tend get a bit caught up in the whole thing to be honest.

There are a few nasty pieces of work running in the upcoming locals. Some of them I've had personal dealings with and some have very telling online activity.

I'm sure they'll try and sweet talk many of the local residents and receive some pleasantries in return but I'm ready to ask some of them some particular questions if they're to arrive at my door on their canvass trail

I don't watch any form of news and have zero interest in politics.

I don't speak to any candidates who come to the door and even though I vote out of habit more than anything else I never follow party lines.

I literally walk into the polling station and if I see a name on the ballot that I know to be proactive and with a history of getting stuff done they'll get my vote regardless of what party they are.

I don't watch anything related to elections and the only clue that someone has been re-elected or not is if the name on the constituency office changes.

If it's a council election I never know who's got in because they don't have offices with a big sign over the door.

As for the local elections here most of the councillors are grand. I'll vote to my usual parties. The European elections are interesting especially if anyone has seen the size of the ballot

I think the most bizarre thing I've seen so far was a shinner leaving SF and being announced as a candidate for FG shortly after. I'm finding it hard to square that circle. At least one of those parties, and maybe both, was completely wrong for him.

Absolutely....electronic voting was terrible for just announcing the winner "

They weren't meant to just announce the winner though.

They were supposed to give us the results of individual counts, albeit one after another, but they were also supposed to give the results of the counts to the candidates in private ahead of the announcement. It was only done in three constituencies though so excitement and inexperience got to the head of the lad in Dublin north east who made a shambles of it. There has also been a delay in getting the modules with the data to the count centres and there was time pressure mounting.

The lad I referenced isn't a councillor, and he won't be after this election either.

The party of independents always amuses me alright. The leader has some hilarious views on things. I always think of them as being a bit like Aontú but with hook-ers. They're anti abortion but want prostitution legalised.

Some of the posters are embarrassing as fuck although the one with the close up of the redhead freckled girls face amuses me…she’s far more tanned than any Irish redhead I’ve ever seen!

Yup more of their ilk are running around the country for council etc. There are posters that are in my opinion litter as some of them don't even have the picture of the candidates on them just far right propaganda about NGOs etc.

Yes there absolutely is. Though I'm still confident enough they won't really get anywhere on voting. A lot of that amplified online noise seems to come from bots and people outside of the country. I think a lot of candidates seem to misunderstand the limits of what they can actually do amd implement at council level too.

The road from it is covered in Ireland is full posters and stuff about plantations

Think there little Hitlers party posters

The good thing about the elections is that the right wing fuckwits standing in the European elections will all lose their deposits

They are also mostly cancelling each other out in the locals but might get one or 2 elected in Dublin where they'll realise they can do feck all and just take the money

While I agree they misunderstand what they can do at that level how many plan to use it as a stepping stone for the general elections. To under estimate them would be silly especially given the proof of recent letter now to the likes of the EDL and American far right groups.
