Hereabouts

Perfectly normal to be nervous but don't be anxious theres nothing to worry about.

My first social I got in touch with one or two others who were newbies going and we became 'base camp buddies'

We mixed and mingled once we settled in but it was good to have those initial moments together as a starting point.

I think it's best to treat it as just a normal evening out and try not to overthink it. Just be yourself and have zero expectations. Chat with the guys as well as the girls and don't be creepy. You'll be fine!

Great advice given, just to reinforce that socials are there for you to socialise with like minded people, everyone will be fully clothed and just a normal day at the pub kind of way...

Which one are you thinking on going? If we spot you, we will come and say HI!!!

Lina.

Just have a nice evening with nice people.

If you want some tips then I'd say think of them as new friends not potential sex partners. Definitely chat to the guys. They are your new friends, not competition. Find a common interest topic you're into (sport, hobbies, cars, animals) and strike up conversations about that with people. You'll find the chats are easier when you find people with common interests besides fab.

Have a good time at it

It is probably a trivial piece of advice but I would consider changing your user name before attending a social, only for your own sake, people will naturally ask “what’s your fab profile name” and if your ok with saying “mad for sex” out loud for the night then more power to you, but in my experience, people with user names like your own tend to mumble them out and feel embarrassed

These sound trivial but you'd be surprised:

Don't drink excessively.

Don't grope or stare.

Don't expect anything.

If you can and there is a dance floor, dance.

Changing your name doesn't sound like a bad idea, I dislike mine for socials but mostly people only care about your real name till after the event for veris.

Often the host of an event will introduce you to some people and it's totally ok to ask a host to help break the ice.

I have been on this site for some time now and never been to a social. I would like to go to one to some new people. But like you would be a bit nervous and not sure which would be a good social to attend. I'm in Donegal

Socials in most cases, are just like an ordinary night out. Go with no expectations, as stated from someone previously chat in the chat group before hand. When we organise ours we hire a private function room, so it's only people who are attending there. We always organise dinner and pre drinks before the main event, so people get to mingle in person before they attend the actual event

You will be fine. In fairness you are coming across very well on the group.

Just keep chatting and be yourself and you will be fine. When you get there just introduce yourself to people and after a minute or too it will be like your local.

.

In my experience socials are very much like a networking event.

A lot of introducing yourself to strangers, asking a bit about each other. Getting introduced to people who others know.

I think for single men they need to remember most events are primarily couples..and not all couples are looking for single men, but you still want to give off a good vibe.

I would suggest very much introducing yourself to a few couples, telling them you're a newbie, and asking for advice for yourself as a single male..

I think being humble and looking for feedback can do a lot to get you on good terms with people.

Go to a social as you’re going to a new bar where you know no one. Just be normal. Easier said than done, I know. It seems simple and I’m aware of your trepidations

Best of luck
