In 2010 I was driving a motorbike on a quiet enough road in County Limerick at night. I took the second exit on a roundabout and the back wheel went from under me, I skidded at a handy enough speed and I was able to roll off the bike with barely a scratch. Lucky escape I thought, lying on the ground. I stood up and a Ford transit passed me so fast I barely saw it, the wing mirror clipped my shoulder. Another half step and I would have been dust! I could smell the rubber from the tyres..

Have you had a near death experience? Did it change your perspective on life?

Yeah. About 12 years ago. I hit black ice and my car spun out of control on a dark winter Sunday evening on an open country road and I ended up in a ditch on the far side of the road.

An oncoming car missed me by a split second. They continued on about their business.

I was already going through a really tough time around then after the death of a family member too.

I was mostly uninjured and the car undamaged. A family from nearby who were returning home spotted me and brought me into their home for a cuppa and to calm me before I continued on. That part is a bit of a blur and still to this day have no idea who they are or what part of the stretch of road they live on, but I will always be so grateful to them. Just really good people.

I had an awful following few months and barely slept a wink with constant flashbacks of the headlights of that oncoming car.

Jesus that is awful! Terrible for that car not to stop, I genuinely think the van driver didn't see me. What are the chances of a fella standing in the road in the dark! I drove home at a snails pace.. and ya, the dreams after were awful

I've had a gun put to my head on a handful of occasions by paramilitaries from both sides of the community and also by the British army as they were all helping themselves to the contents of my van?

Each time carried the threat of death if I didn't do what they asked but as mad as it might seem it was just another day so I carried on with my work after and didn't take any time off.

I have also walked in the back door of a couple of pubs and clubs as gunmen were going out the front after shooting one of the clientele so if my timing had been slightly different I could have been caught in the crossfire but I never really gave it much thought at the time.

Naas which is South West of Dublin

I had an unfortunate incident with some Christmas lights here a few years ago, didn’t change my perspective on life but did make my rethink my decorating…….

Somersaulted over a car off a motorbike a few years back, witnesses only gave me 5.5 because I landed on my arse, rolled a car, few other bangs, tips, scratches and scrapes but nothing life changing.

Was in a band once and had to finish a gig early because of gunfire, tough crowd…..

Probably have changed my perspective on life as I’ve went along but not due to any near death experiences.

I guess I didn’t count it as near death until I read above- but I’ve been in a few hold up situations - have twice had a gun pointed at me, a few knives, syringes and a hammer- risks of my old job in Dublin I guess. Also had stage 3 cancer if that counts? Milly

I try not to think about it but one Christmas we had a family holiday planned and I got left behind.

Two burglars broke into the house and luckily enough I had booby trapped the whole place.

Anyway long story short the burglars survived being electrocuted and burnt and managed to catch me.

Only for my neighbour and his snow shovel I was gone for.

I did tell this story to an up and coming film director but nothing came of it.

Two.

1 tried to OD on substances after a death in the family.

2 a small bout of testicular cancer.

Lesson learned? Life sucks sometimes.

On serious note, after a Slane concert drop off I ran out from behind the front of the bus and missed a moving car by the width of a bee’s wing.

Chance, luck or fate who knows, something I do think about.

I was coming home from a nite shift one Fri nite, travelling the back road , was tipping along, next thing had this feeling to slow down as something didnt feel right so I did had a vision of a crash, bout half a mile later saw this girl flagging me down her and her bf had crashed hit a ditch over turned the car, no one was hurt, only their car. It was single handedly the weirdest experience of my life, didn't sleep for wks after it. I know not a NDE buy just felt I'd share

A town near you

I put a frozen birds eye waffle into the toaster, it defrosted and slumped in side the toaster so I stuck a fork in to retrieve said waffle, the fork went through the waffle and into the element. The bang I got sent me across the kitchen and on to my arse. I thought my heart was gonna explode the ay it was beating afterwards.
