Mental stuff.

I just read that the actor who plays the lead is the actual victim in real life telling his own story

I started episode 1 then turned it off as it was just annoying...should I go back to it? Stick with it?

It was based on his own experience with a stalker rather than an actual true story, however all the emails etc were real. He'd already ran it as a play.

I know men and women through fab who have had experiences with stalkers and I have a non fab related experience so it's not uncommon.

I (Mr) had a stalker ex before. She dedicated her life to setting up fake accounts, harassing any girl I had contact with on FB/Fab. Spewing the same sort of vile diarrhoea to them as in that show, trying to destroy their lives.

I met 3 other girls who were going through the exact same experience cuz their boyfriend briefly dated her at one point.

She denied it was her, but it coincidently all stopped the day she was sectioned.

Awful experience altogether, I wouldn't recommend it.

All very similar to my friends experiences and in one case I got dragged in because the stalker tried to poison our friendship with lies and threatening to contact all my verifications with "the truth".

Neither woman had met each other and the only link was that they both shared an ex from many years before.

Ye should look up the show's creator Richard Gadd on Youtube. That awful comedy routine in the show, was his exact routine when he started out. Exact same jokes and stupid dancing.

I've watched a few episodes and just can't get my head around the mentality of either of them to be honest.

She is just completely obsessive and obviously lying from the very start and he had a few opportunities to put a stop to it and didn't. I find it all very strange. I don't even know if it's worth finishing the series as I find it so twisted.

I thought it was brilliantly done. It certainly made me question my understanding of mental health issues and how it engulfs the abused, the abusers and ripples outward to family, friends and lovers. And how I questioned in the past the reasoning of those who have stayed in abusive relationships or went back to them or those who experienced abuse and how it went full cycle later in life. The theatre monologue was something else. Superbly written.

If I’m totally honest I don’t think it was good, it was a brutal, tough watch at times and I didn’t enjoy it. Not sure if it’s shedding a light on mental illness and how the lines blur between the abuser and the abused or it’s just a perfect example of traumaporn and the commodification of suffering.

This is just my interpretation and it’s not absolute but it’s my thoughts at the time, happy to amicably discuss

I think there’s actually an episode of black mirror on Netflix basically pointing out people making shows about terrible things that happened purely to satisfy viewers hunger for trauma and get a heap of streams

Kinda felt that was what was going on here

Exactly this... its like Stockhom syndrome.

No one knows how they would react until they are in the situation and then it's just a fight for survival and sanity

Good show, but very taught provoking with a few good twists too. It reminded me a bit of a podcast I listened to before called the witness where at the the 1st episode I had a view in my head of the people involved by the end of this and the podcast my view had totally changed 360. I'd highly recommend both.

Well said, it's great to highlight how abuse is so damaging. We need more of this type of understanding in society.

I'm 3 episodes in and tbh don't find it any more shocking or distributing than many other shows.

Unfortunately it's all too familiar though.

The stalking part is something I have experience of but to a much lesser degree.

The back story though is very similar to something a family member went through 25 years ago when someone he was in a relationship with was spinning tales about her extremely important and secretive job and her close relationship with many household names.

She bought property and involved numerous tradespeople, estate agents, bank managers and a solicitor in a scam which involved hundreds of thousands of pounds.

I became the spanner in the works because she accidentally name dropped people I knew extremely well and that rang alarm bells.

I put two and two together and joined the dots and made everyone aware it was all a con.

It had been going on for 6 months but unravelled in the space of a few days.

The figures I had uncovered were only half of what was really going on once the police got involved.

She was never prosecuted because she had been sectioned a few years before and it all fell under the MH umbrella but somehow she was able to run for election as a local councillor the following year.

She was removed from the ballot when all the people she had scammed got involved.

That experience left me very cynical about people using MH as an excuse for their actions and nothing has surprised me since.

This Andrew Tate narrative that bigots seem to be throwing about, that men have fallen into being feminine these days is pure nonsense.

Would you rather young lads these days acted like the when you were growing up in the 80s?

Elton John,Freddie Mercury, Bowie, Boy George? Even the rock stars all had long beautiful hair, covered in makeup and nail polish, prancing around stage in glitter and tight pants.

If anything, men in society have become unattainably masculine. Every male star these days seems to be some pumped up strong Marvel type beefcake.

I'm on the last episode and can honestly say I won't give it another thought once it's finished.

Martha is a carbon copy of the woman I described above in the way she looks and speaks.

They could literally be the same person.

Unfortunately I've seen so much shit in my life that I'm numb to it all and haven't seen anything in this that hasn't been covered before or that will leave a lasting impression.
