Any recommendations on places to visit/ stay whilst in Galway? Any good hikes nearby ?

Diamond Hill, about an hour's drive from the city out through Connemara which on the right day can be beautiful. Back through Roundstone, couple of nice spots for lunch. Back to the City, Quay Street or Back West for night life. If you're into craft beers you could try Beirhaus or The Salt House. Food, tapas at Sangria or Cava Bodega. Music Monroe's, or more traditional the Crane, Blue note glis good for a dance.

Connemara is a must when in Galway. The 12 pins trek is doable in a day, you need good gear. Better to get info about the difficulty and check the forecast too.
