Hunt for a new housemate

Dublin

With rooms so difficult to come by in Dublin at the moment and my current housemate leaving in the near future, I find myself with a spare room. Wondering if a fab housemate is a good or a bad idea?!

Depends on how well you know the person.

Again not everyone is a weirdo but there are a few psychopaths on here. So if you know them along time sure but if you don’t I wouldn’t risk it.

In your case I'd recommend a female fabber and not male one if going down that route. You could be each other's safety contact, swap stories of experiences and not have any issues with house callers etc. This could be a guy either but a female fabber strikes me as a better idea.

The West

I periodically rent out a room in my house and I much prefer my tenants to have no relationship with me whatsoever. Over time I've just found it better to keep that relationship quite straight and business like.

Doesn't mean we can't get on but it's not an equal playing field.

You need to keep personal life yours

This is what I was thinking. No issues with visitors from time to time.

I would say no. Its good to keep your private life and fab life apart. No blurred lines x

Id say bad idea as it can lead to complications Id imagine

What would happen if they brought someone home to their room that you already met and didnt like ...would it be awkward for you and them

Or the other way around if you brought someone home and they wanted to share them with you but you didnt

A vanilla flatmate I think

Or just ask Hardy to move in and problem solved

I’d my fill of sharing with housemates that I knew. Nothing but hassle. Strangers were always the least hassle. Pay rent, pay the bill, keep the kitchen clean and no ‘I’ll get you for that next week’.

With such a competitive market out there you can be choosy. I remember a site where you could put rooms up for Monday to Friday occupancy only. Suits some people from down the country who come up for work. I’ll see if I can dig it up.

I'd say it could work if you were outside of each others preferences, and could look out for each other, but otherwise no.

Most of my experiences for Rent A Room tenants have always been bad, Its not worth the hassle for the amount of money involved unless you know the person very well. Id steer well clear

Like others have said bad idea.

Keep your own life private and your own space private.

I am looking at renting out also Monday to Friday as I'm not there much but can have my weekends to myself

I'd have to agree with _ilder here it's got its ups and downs .

Butt once you have clearly defined boundaries/ rules like with any other tenants . So yes another woman might be a good idea .

Yeah definitely not a randomer, only someone that you know and are friendly with already.

No awkward excuses, explanations of who they were, excuse the noises we made, don’t mind the kinky underwear hanging up to dry

I'll put myself forward. I'm clean, healthy and not a bad cook. I'm retired so would keep the house clean and have your dinner ready when you got home from work. We could go to socials together.

Don't dismiss me straight away have a think about my offer. You could not do any worse.

You'd just need some rules about what is on offer and when it's on offer.

It could present you with a sex supply for when you want something with risk of who you are inviting over, or an extra person for when you want a group thing...

It's also a house mate who might help organise parties

But like all swinging - no means no. Both parties need to understand that people are not always in the mood or headspace for sex, or you might want a lick out with no further responsibility for sex afterwards.

But there's also the fun part,

You get to interview people in the nip

You get to test their housemate skills.... Where can I apply?

i travel all over

When looking for a flatmate I d steer clear of fabbers personally . They make great friends , but really not sure about housemates .

1. Wouldn’t want different people coming to the house

2. Wouldn’t want noise at all sorts of hours

3. Wouldn’t want my housemate’s partners to know where I lived and my actual name and personal details about me if we are all on fab .

4. Would like a clear divide between my home and my , hobby, for a lack of better word.

South Side.

Renting your room is a business. Keep it business like, signed contract, agreed payments ,etc.

A fab lodger might expect more, shared friends, party time, etc.

Maybe consider taking in a student, as there are great tax incentives. ( Hmmm, a young student fabber....now there's an idea)
