Radio Station in the 90s

This isn't fab related but looking for some help

I remember roughly in 1995 or around that time I think there was a radio station that use to play like romantic background music and the dj use to read out letters. I can't remember exactly what the letters were about but I've a feeling they were like love letters or that sort of thing. The dj had a really soothing voice also.

Does anybody remember this and do you know what it was called or what radio station it was?

Yeah, for some reason I think it was 2fm. I think it was on late as well though, possibly around 11pm I think.

Was it not Barry Lang on 2fm? Think he had a show late at night that was all love songs at the time and he would always read out a listeners letter about how they had their heart broken by what was probably their 1st love. He always had the same backing music playing when he was reading out the letter then afterwards he'd play some appropriate slopy shite like "Phil Collins, Living Seperate Lives" lol

The mast for transmitting Atlantic 252 was not far from where I live, I remfber at the time they wanted to build it there were big protests by locals with the slogan "Radio Tara Radio Active"

It was built anyway and their fir well over 20 years till last year when it was taken down by controlled explosion which was pretty impressive to see

Were they Dear John letters?

Oddly spent time in kerry in the 90s and my housemates used to listen to dear John letters, might have been on 252 or Radio Kerry.

I've just got reading through the comments now and thank you so much to all that replied. I'm delighted it brought back a bit of nostalgia for people. It does look like a few radio stations did it. I'd definitely recognise the voice if I heard it.

I remember as a 15/16 year old listening to it on the Walkman with the built in radio and headphones on, lying in bed. They were the good times..and they were the best of times..

Dublin west

He flys for Emirates and I was on one of his flights and recognised his voice.

It's funny how the brain can remember a voice even if it's not heard it for years.

Pretty sure it was 2fm alright but I’d say the broken heart letter was common on many stations

FOUND IT!! Bogman, you were absolutely correct with your first message. It was Simon Bates with the segment 'Our Tune'. That's the one I was thinking off. He did it on Atlantic 252 as well.

Thanks so much to everyone for all the replies.

I'm going to listen to a few tonight

Oh 60 heart beats was the show then went to 120. Used to tune in all the time. Went to Irish College came back and it had disappeared. My friends used to all listen and discuss the letter the next day. Brings back so many memories, those were the days.
