...what's your take on them?

Do you love a good rummage in one or does the whole idea give you the ick?

If the former, what's the best bargain you've ever managed to find?

For me one that stands out is a pair of Le Babe shoes. They retail in excess of €100 and I picked them up, brand new for a tenner!

I got a pair of hand made shoes for €20 about 15 years ago. They are so comfortable I didn't know they were hand made till I got them re-healed and the cobbler said they were worth about €400 new.

I get incredible clothes and stunning vintage pieces from charity shops. You need patience and a good eye. Recently bought Karen Millen, Ted Baker and Balenciaga dresses for €20 each that retail at over €300. I don't follow current fashion trends i like to find older unique pieces

I've a parker knoll reclining armchair in oxblood leather for £30, most of my furniture is pre loved from charity shops or gumtree, and i do love a car boot sale too, you never know what you can find there.

I love them. Shop there all the time. My best buy was I got a vintage 2004 Tom Ford for Gucci special edition angora wool winter coat for €40 which is currently selling online for €3000 ++. I would much rather charity shopping than high street.

Once got a couch/sofa from the charity shop.which the tv remote got lost in. Had to remove the lining to get it.

Oh my god the dirt but did find the remote along with over €200 in coins.

It got disposed of shortly after that. The inside wash filthy. The change paid for my tv licence at the time ( p.s. no longer a tv licence holder)

City Centre

Thrifting is good fun. I bought lot's of hats last year when I was going to the races, when it was over, I donated them back. I've managed to pick up a couple of gems in the vinyl section too. They can be full of little treasures.

As for the charity aspect of how much actually goes to those in need, I'm not sure but I've a feeling the percentage is low.

Charity shops are great at times but sometimes not so great ...maybe I've came away from them to buy for myself...but I do donate all the time Otto local churches for car boots every penny counts and helps others out x

Best buy a diamond ring for 100e. I bought it to a jeweller to polish, he was shocked told me full history of the ring, vintage, jeweller and location. Plus it was worth 6,000 e.

Great to hear people getting genuine bargains. I was put off them for a long time as people were telling me that the staff/volunteers took all the best stuff for themselves and their friends.

Now I think those people were trying to keep me away so they’d have less competition for the good stuff!

This is the very reason I love them!

I'd have no doubt that the volunteers do get first dibs, but I guess that has to be one of the privileges if you're taking the time to volunteer.

Absolutely.. I adore the ring now.. I made some changes to it to make it less art deco. People always comment on the sparkle of it. I would always recommend look at vintage jewellery. Not only is the quality better but you can make changes to it to suit.

Charity shops are great for shy tvs!! Too shy to try a dress on in the shop, but so good price wise that not too much is lost if the dress doesn't fit or suit! Does anyone know a good charity store that caters for tvs??
