Myself and Lulu are based in Carlow.

Looking forward to hearing back from the forum and hopefully join a group or even start a walking group ourselves nice planned walks and coffee’s after

Can create a telegram or kik group chat if we get the right interest

Kinky Party Planners are organising the Wicklow/Kilkenny/Wexford hiking walks!! It hasn't started yet but they plan to start in January/February 2024 starting with Wicklow first!! I'm sure they'll put a post up on the forum when they're ready to start and a Kik group will then be formed!! Rosie

I don't have telegram, just Kik!! Kinky Party Planners will set up a Kik group chat for the walks, better off waiting for them to set a group chat up first!! I presume they'll set up a separate chat each for Wicklow, Kilkenny and Wexford!!

Just a heads up OP and fair play for trying to get it going...

I remember someone recently say they did similar before. Problem was so many people joined thinking it wasn't just a walking group but a walking "and more..." group.

As the meetups went on and they realised it was literally a walking group, the numbers dwindled massively until it was one or two left and they packed it in.

The walk is going to be in Kilkenny so you're hardly going to drive all the way from Dublin to do the walk! You'll be driving more than you'll be walking!"

Ah sorry well that is true won’t be doing that I taught there was some happening in Dublin as well. Should read in more detail next time. Doh!??

I'm sure somebody will start a thread about walks in the Dublin areas!! But, if you know some good walks yourself around Dublin and it sounds like you do why don't you put up a thread about it yourself!

yup

There is a group in tullow that run a mountaineering club. They organise walks/hikes three times a week. Typical Wednesday/ Friday and Sunday. They do a range of walks/ hikes suitable for all experience/fitness levels, so from easy short walks and full blown day long hikes and anywhere between. Normally meet in Carlow and go to hills/mountains close enough to Carlow/wicklow area and do a few further afield trips a few times a year. Each hike is lead by a experienced leader /guide that done the route loads of times before. If that sounds somewhat what you are looking for check them out on face-book and best thing is to send them a message or give them a call and they would point you in the right direction from there.

Not sure if there are "EXTRA" activities accruing on the walks but who knows. It's all adults so wouldn't be surprised.

The last paragraph shows what the problem is when it comes to walking groups

An actual group on facebook looks like its well organised but sure look lets throw in a comment about extra activities and being adults

I always wish anyone organising one of these groups well and I have offered practical advice in the past but I could literally write a book about the drama, the expectations, the hospital visits due to injuries and pneumonia and the number of people who have left fab permanently as a result of previous groups.

It's just a different layer of expectation and entitlement with grown adults blatantly refusing to listen to safety concerns and warnings all because they expect to get their leg over.

Single women and couples equally as much as single men so it's not gender specific.

Good afternoon FAB…

We’re all set for our 1st outing a lovely 3.4 km loop just outside of kk city dog friendly once on a lead, you can do as much or as little as you like.

And a lovely hot chocolate or coffee after the walk in Kilkenny city somewhere.

PM ourselves if interested in joining in also we’ve formed kik chat group for planning and feedback of any walks wishing to be done

Best of luck guys with your walk next week.

Still haven't managed to get a date and location sorted for a first walk in the southern area.

But hopefully, now that I am back after my self inflicted fab break, we will get something arranged over the next few weeks.

Good evening everyone unfortunately we’d to postpone our trip to Kilkenny for a lovely planned walk due to storm Isha for safety reasons.

But good news is only until next Sunday 28th of January in Kilkenny, planned walk is just outside city at 11am. We’d love to hear from anyone interested in joining, if so contact us

Not long back from a lovely walk in KK and a natter over coffee afterwards!! There were five of us for this walk, it was lovely to meet up with old friends!! The weather was perfect for it!! Just as I drove off after the coffee, it started to drizzle rain!!

So the date for the next hike is February 18th, this time in Co Waterford, Dungarvan way!! Maybe a few more fabbers will join us on the 18th!! The destination will be told nearer the time to those who express an interest in this next hike!! Rosie

Thanks for organising the hike. Lovely chats along the way and a nice tour of the locality after. A lot of laughter at the Cafe after.

An awful lot of double meanings while the orders were being taken.

Big or small bowl. Big or small spoon. What kind of stuffing do like. Great day and great craic.

Had a fantastic walk in a spectacular location in Co. Waterford earlier today. Really cool fun group with lots of laughs, a little exercise, some slippery moments but a really nice time spent with some fellow fabbers.

The post walk cafe for lunch was top class, especially the "BIG" bowl of soup.

Thanks OP and BR for organising a very pleasant way to spend a few hours getting to know some new and interesting people.

Looking forward to meeting up with the same bunch soon and maybe few new fab faces also.

With fingers crossed for good weather a walk is planned for Saturday March 2nd in North/East Cork.

The walk will take place on gravel forest paths so runners will be ok but walking shoes/boots would be even better. Rain jacket might be advisable.

Option 1, carpark to hilltop and back, 30/40 mins approx.

Option 2, carpark to hilltop and back via forest loop, 1 hr approx.

Coffee and more chat at nearby filling station afterwards.

Post on the Hillwalking Southern Group thread or drop me a DM if you are interested but not already on the Tel*gr*m chat group.

It will be difficult to beat the S/E group's walk last weekend, especially the refreshments, but we will try our best.

"With fingers crossed for good weather a walk is planned for Saturday March 2nd in North/East Cork.

It will be difficult to beat the S/E group's walk last weekend, especially the refreshments, but we will try our best."

Looking forward to this, been a while since I got out walking
