I see there's another petition to get him cancelled,

Should he be,I've heard only a few minutes of his stuff,so cant say what its about...never watched the office

But it did get me thinking

So is this cancel culture?

Could it be argued that if you don't like him don't listen

Or should he be booted and forgotten about

I don't know him well enough or watch his shows, he's just not funny to me. However I used to watch the golden age of mock the week and the modern stuff is absolute drivel in comparison.

I think it's hard being a comedian these days when almost everything in our lives are already jokes.

I've never watched a single show he has done and only knew him from chat shows.

I was given free tickets to one of his shows 4 or 5 years ago by my boss.

They had been bought for him by his kids for his birthday and he despised him and refused to go.

It was probably the most unfunny and uncomfortable couple of hours I've ever spent in a theatre.

There were a lot of empty seats after the interval and I regretted not leaving at that point too.

I don't agree with censorship but all his arguments about the true meaning of comedy and how people take offence is bullshit.

I just went back to doing what I've always done as soon as his face appears on screen and changed the channel.

somewhere

Stand up isn't great to be honest he doesnt make me laugh when I've seen him live and Ive seen the show the complaints are about

He's funny taking the piss while presenting especially the time he slagged Leonardo DiCaprio about his girlfriend being to old after she sat through one of his films

However the fecker made me laugh and cry ...a lot watching Afterlife on Netflix

A lot of U.K. comedians are very hard to watch,

Comedy is being replaced by crudeness to get a laugh from the audience.

I think he was funny back in The Office days and Afterlife.

There are plenty worse than him both here and in U.K.

Funny enough I’m watching him in Afterlife atm, must say it’s a decent watch

Didn’t realise he had a new standup show, didn’t realise there was a petition to stop it, didn’t realise online petitions were legally binding

What does cancelled mean?

I think all this cancel culture shite is to distract you from underfunded hospitals, underfunded schools and poverty in general

If ye like his stuff, carry on watching it

If ye don’t like his stuff, carry on not watching it

He's brilliant. The Office and Extras were both fantastic and Afterlife was very good as well. Wouldn't necessarily be a massive fan of his stand up but in general I'm not a big stand up comedy fan anyway.

As for being cancelled, who isn't starting a petition to cancel someone or something now a days? The last heard is that it had 4,500 signatures which says it all.

I have to say, whatever you think of his comedy.. I've mixed opinions. But his show on Netflix called 'afterlife' is a fantastic piece of work. Not a comedy even though there's humour in it but it's on many levels, worth checking out at least.

Cancelled meaning completely reject and stop supporting someone, especially because they have said something that offends you: A celebrity who has shared an unpopular opinion on social media risks being "cancelled": they are completely boycotted by fans. College students decided to cancel her after her homophobic tweet

But if he's "cancelled" wouldn't it mean his stuff wouldn't be available

And no online petitions are not legally binding

I'm not sure someone gets cancelled by some busybody making a petition against them. Personally I find him a curious mixture of mildly irritating and hilariously funny. Those trying to silence him will definitely be disappointed.

Cancelling or trying to cancel people seems to be happening more and more

Gervais seems to have a massive following

So he maybe wont be gone anytime soon

As someone said above...if you don't like him...don't listen...

It seems cancel culture or a form of it has always existed...court jesters had to make whatbwas happening around the place funny or face prison or death.cops being able to arrest comedians for obscene content in the early 20th century..plenty of familiar names have been arrested over it

Before that audience members would get physical with them or throw food

Years before that there were certain words you couldn't use and certain things you couldn't talk about or you'd be gone

I think someone will be offended no matter what...and thats ok too..

Not a fan of your many Ricky , but this cancel bullshit is like something out of a movie, it seems social media rules not he majority of ppl’s opinions.

I’m just glad I won’t be around to see what a complete cluster fuck the planet will become. It’s well on the way.

but be under no illusion , your living through a twilight zone. From what I’ve seen the generation behind this one are out of touch with ALL reality, morally too.
