Tourist tips for Dublin

Hi folks I'm visiting Dublin for 5 days in January. Now I've been to Dublin before but usually on lads trips so I've never been a tourist as such. My plans are to visit tourist spots during the day then a meal and some drinks at night. Any advice and all advice is welcome. Preferably a mix of the main spots plus not so well know gems. I would also appreciate if folk could point me to places its not an arm and a leg for a pint and a meal where there is some life in the place. Oh and best bars to visit at night to keep me entertained. Sorry for the novel but thanks in advance

I second Kilmainham Gaol. Take the guided tour and pre book.

Grogans (aka The Castle Lounge) is a great pub for meeting people and having the chats with strangers.

Also The Dawson Lounge. It's the smallest pub in Dublin so you'll end up chatting people.

Never been in it but The Brazen Head is NOT the oldest pub in Ireland despite what they tell you. It's almost 300 years younger than Sean's Bar in Athlone...which is in the centre of the country.

Guinness store house is a good tour as it the Jameson Distillery tour depending what your interested in.

I would generally stay away Temple Bar but always go when I’m showing around visitors

Glasnevin cemetery tour is quiet good. Kavanaghs pub (gravediggers) next door does fantastic guinness. They also do toasties and coddle

If you do kilmainham pre book. If you don't then eery morning the release certain amount of daily tkts after 9

Camden street quiet good for bars. Devitts has good food and trad music upstairs

o'donoghue's baggott St do good guinness too and locals do trad music every night too

Unfortunately lately Dublin has seen a rise in anti social behaviour / violent attacks. It's sad to say and I don't want to put you off but just be careful when around. Be careful of the usual pick pockets and your phone too

Also if your staying outside the city centre beware at night time after midnight taxis are very difficult to come across

Take one of the bus tours, the green do Dublin stop at pretty much all the hotspots.

One alot of ppl seem to like The Little Museum of Dublin up off Stephans green.

Drinks , the long hall , the stags head, Kehoes , grogans, are all good spots withen the city centre limits

If Ur after some crafty beers

Brew dog is down by grand canal dock

The black sheep

Tapped

The beer temple

To be continued....

Great bars - Brannigans on Cathedral Street - it's an ecclesiastical building originally comprised of an altered old convent.

Grogan's is an excellent spot and the owner is a gentleman, I had great craic with him the other day - without realizing who he was.

Slatterys on Capel Street is great too

''Dive bars''

RIOT

Cassidys

MeMa's , the big romance , both on Parnell st

Frank Ryan's

Food

Pizza

PI

Bambino is highly recommended, very hip, best for a quick slice, it's nice but I don't get the hype

But out of town is rascals brewery, great pizza and lots of crazy home brews

Burgers

Bunsen and dash are probably best

Mad egg is all things chicken and great deserts

Something sweet

Seek out an offbeat donut shop, there's a few around, so good

Try capel street

It's recently been closed to traffic, lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, theres a great mix , from traditional bars, like boars head, slatterys, oniells, to new Orleans Cajun in Krewe. It's also home to the infamous Panto Bar and a few Adult shops, nice at night with the neon.

Fancier restaurants are not really my forte .

But a smart casual one would be Luigi Malone's in temple bar , they do everything, steaks wings pizza , and all good ,try Thier tanker of Fischer's beer, so good.

There a few specialty steak houses after opening up, just Google them and you'll find them

Cocktails

Peruke & Periwig

The blind pig

Fade street social

Dakota

Other touristy things,

The GPO

Trinity College/book of kells

The viking splash tour is bit of fun but has to booked in advance

Guinness store house

Something a little different

Token (Smithfield).classic arcade & pinball machines , good food beer and cocktails

Hang dai

Asian inspired food, ina Subway tram setting, trendy djs at night.

Infact up that way is all things hip

The basement of yamamori izakaya on George's street is little gem, good food, late open usually a good DJ by night

Visit the why go bald neon sign close by two,

Cork is on my bucket list. The closest I've got was climbing Carrauntoohil. That was a trek
