So Fairytale of New York will sound different this year with his passing

I actually prefer Rainy night in Soho to be honest

He was a perfect Gentleman any time I met him

RIP

A true gentleman,Just never gave himself a chance with the drink. Used to come into Vince Powers club in Harlesden, nothing London. It was always great fun but long hours for the staff.

Fitting that he passed away on the run up to Christmas, a man of his time.

Amazing how drink and drugs have taken so many of our intellectual geniuses. An awful shame

Very sad news especially at this time of year. It'll be very poignant when I hear Fairytale of New York played this Christmas!!

He was approaching 66 years old, given the level of addiction he suffered from, he actually had a long enough life, but very restricted for the last ten years or so. Sad for all those that loved him.

One of our best songwriters. Pretty good stretch for a lad that was as fond of the pints as he was. R.I.P

Some of his lyrics were amazing. He will leave a great catalogue but a big fucking hole. I love listening to The Pogues and tearing into the drink, think I'll have to rip into it this weekend, raise a glass or two.

Check out, A pair of brown eyes

A rainy night in soho

Streams of whiskey

Sunny side of the street

Haunted with Sinead o Connor

If I should fall from grace with god

The body of an American

Spancil Hill on the late late with christy moore

The Pogues at Ulster Hall on NYE , I think 86?, was one of the worst gigs that I have ever attended. To say he was out of tune with the audience is an understatement. But given that he was pissed and there was no bar in the venue that is probably very understandable. Never met him personally, but other acquaintances we shared always had a good word.

So this is the day Shane is laid to rest. Funeral started in Dublin from 10.30am this morning and then on to Nenagh, Co Tipperary in the afternoon at 3.30pm.

Everyone in Nenagh, Co Tipperary and indeed everyone else in Ireland will be singing the Pogues songs today in his honour..... Fairytale of New York, Dirty old town etc!! There'll be no more songs like them again!!

Rest In Peace Shane McGowan . He lived to a great age in fairness with all his heavy drinking.

Coming home to be buried in Co. Tipp. Rest Easy Shane....

Ronnie Drew is waiting for you with the thickest creamiest pint of Guinness....Ye'll give it stick up above ....XX

Fairytale of New York

I'm surprised it isn't getting more air play....I haven't heard it once on the radio so far.

A rainy night in Soho is the song of choice at the moment on the radio stations and another song called Haunted as its sinead O Connor's birthday today

Think Fairytale will take over again from next week
