When are the government going to get off their holes and equipe the Gardai properly . All they can basically Do is tell those yobs to stop doing that and go home . There is no repercussions for most of those assholes looting in Dublin tonight . Water cannons tasers decent battons . And yes hurt those assholes before they hurt other people.

"Body cams are essential, to id the crotes, need them on all Garda."

They've already been agreed. Legal issues are being ironed out at the moment.

This from the Irish Times a few months ago.. "A live operation pilot programme is scheduled for 2024, with a full roll-out to begin afterwards “commencing incrementally in 2025 before completion in 2026”, according to a document produced for the briefing. A public consultation process will also take place."

They won’t even be needed for last night, the scrotes have smeared themselves all over social media and the city center CCTV is generally supposed to be pretty good as well and will have a lot of the incidents recorded.

I'd take a more strategic view. The damage in Dublin last night cost a couple of million. I haven't heard of any deaths or serious injury from the rioting. . All the damage can be repaired. However, all those involved have come out into the open, on camera, CCTV, and social media. Some will be easily identified, while other suspects will now be under surveillance. This also allows the govt bring in new laws to monitor social media, as there will be popular support for it. There are 30 something rioters in court this morning, not a bad haul.

What I don't understand is why its ok for some people to use their phones and post video all over social media ....but thanks to GDPR rules the Guards cant use body cams to gather evidence

I just don't get why the government are resisting providing better protection to the Garda. Every single Garda should have a taser as part of their basic kit. I'd also suggest that large Garda stations in Dublin and other major cities should have armed response units.

There should be increased sentence for rioting and looting. And a mandatory sentence for carrying a knife

Tazers and non lethal weapons, I'd agree with. But armed response? How can a weapon be legally used to quell a riot? Under Irish law you can't shoot people , unless lives are in danger, and the actions of the armed Garda will be minutely dissected years later in the high court. In last night's riot situation, no guns were used, and in the cold light of day, this morning, that's a good thing.

If those assholes that were looting and that organised the riot thought they might get hurt or shot they might think twice about doing what they did . I say arm the gardas and shoot the bustards in the legs who decide to go ape shit and wreck other people's property and put people's livelihoods at risk . Having police with live weapons in a super heated situation? I mean sure, it's easy for us to comment on such things but how many protests and riots in history turn into a massacre? And before somebody says shoot into a crowd of 'scumbags', is more life being lost really what we need these days?

Yeah the guards are underfunded and underequpied, maybe there should be something done to improve that but I'm just proud they managed the situation the best they could.

This riot is evidence of disenfranchised youths being manipulated by ring wing shit stirrers feeding them crap on line. Firstly aggressively target the online activity, arrest prosecute and publish their details. Secondly the number of young men interested in joining the Garda is almost nil. Thirdly mounted riot police in conjunction with more specialised extraction units, who target ring leaders and remove them. The worry here is the oxygen these groups have gotten may embolden them.

Let's be honest most of guards time is used up as revenue creation/collection for the state.

Bringing in "proper" equipment would mean that they would have to be to be properly trained and recertified every year in the use of said equipment. Plus it opens up the possibility of misuse etc how many of us got a clip around the ear from a guard growing up when we where little shites, imagine now that clip was a stun gun, a baton or a rubber bullet. Big difference

They set up a unit nearly a year ago targeting the far right assholes with only one arrest so far. Either the gardai don't give a shit or the unit isnt funded correctly. A properly funded and organised unit with the intelligence to look in all these shitheads hidey holes would have arrested a lot more of these scumbags.

If there was an incident of Garda Brutality and subsequent protests, the exact same shitbags would riot and loot in the aftermath.

There are a few fringe right wing characters but they aren't orchestrating anything, they're having a very small circlejerk with the handful of like-minded people who subscribe to their manifesto. The assholes last night do not follow them and probably haven't a clue who they are. If any of these right with nutbags came face to face with the ferral scumbags, they'd shit their pants and run away.

Rather than chasing the mythical right wing bogeyman, if you went through the criminal history of the cunts who tore O'Connell Street apart last night, you'd probably find lists of offences as long as you're arm with little or no justice served because they were underage or got suspended sentances or early release because of prison overcrowding. Our justice system is not serving society, there is no deterrent to persistent low to moderate level antisocial behaviour and criminality which occasionally hits a critical mass on occasions like yesterday. Nip that in the bud and you might actually prevent shit like this.

Do deterrents work? The US doesn't seem to be able to get the hang of it.

As someone said above, these people are disenfranchised. They are not afraid of criminal justice, jail or tasers. Violent retaliation scales with with the use of force by law enforcement. The Paris riots exemplify this.

Only when our society grows to encompass the care of everyone will these problems be solved.

There's three decades of research showing that mass incarceration doesn't work.

Tackling institutionalised class discrimination by voting out the current government would be a better start.

Poverty, substance abuse, lack of education. These are at the root of how these youths end up where they are now. You can lock them up but there's more giving behind them unless those problems are solved.

Classism is as big a problem as racism in most countries where government policy favours welfare over regeneration and education.

There has to be some responsibility on people who commit crime. Last night's incident was just rent a mob. There was the American tourists in who nearly lost an eye. 2 English football supporters were beaten up. The riot outside the dail. As someone point there is a unit to look at these groups but under funded.

Seems to be mistrust between garda and senior garda.

Not Irish here, just making an outside observation.

Was the 5 year old, and other kids and adults that were stabbed from a similar community to the people out rioting? The scale of the rioting clearly wasn't planned yet it happened literally within hours of that incident occurring. With the amount of folk who turned out they can't all have been thugs? Unless of course, you're happy to guzzle down state propaganda?

Maybe the law makers should be taking steps to amend or even create new legislation to deal specifically with violent immigrants properly. The Algerian with an Irish passport was known to the authorities and the courts did block his removal. That is, unless folk are happy with importing and allowing violent folk to stay?

The authorities really do need to take this seriously, as it is going to become more prevalent. If those authorities are seen to not be on the side of their own people just exactly what sort of groups do you think people will turn to?

The West

The beautiful sweet irony of a non-national warning us about the non-national conspiracy.

I'll get my tinfoil hat.

"Not Irish here, just making an outside observation.

If those authorities are seen to not be on the side of their own people just exactly what sort of groups do you think people will turn to?"

While the scale wasn't planned you have far right heads grooming these little bastards for the last few years telling them they're getting everything etc etc

Gavin pepper (the piece of shit) mike Brazil (fat incel) along with others from the fash parties we unfortunately have in Ireland sent out a call for those little bastards to meet. Their shotcallers riled them up via WhatsApp and telegram to cause havoc. Don't believe me, the videos are all over social media. Most of the little bastards don't and never gave a shit about the kids hurt on Thursday. They would rather use the nationality of the man as an excuse for their bullshit. As an excuse to cause trouble and get at the gardai.

Algerian man with and Irish passport is Irish.

Anyone with an Irish passport is...

I wonder if the person was Irish would there have been such a reaction? Of course not.

Most of the brain dead scum that gone on about foreigners coming here to take out house's,money or benefits are the ones who have never worked a day in their lives. I rather the Irish never worked where made work that might free up some funds.

I would agree but I would also add that there are underlying problems that need to be addressed, employment and some peoples lack of engagement in the workforce.

There is no problem with employment but there is a problem with socialism driven welfare policies. Why should people work if you can be so causy on SW? Social should be paid for 3 months and then nothing.
