Lonely Christmas

Belfast

We don't usually celebrate Christmas when the kids aren't around (every second year) as we only do it for them. We're not into the Christmassy spirit or dinners or the big deal of it.

This year however we decided to take a different approach...

We know that some people might have no family to celebrate it with, or just choose not to see their family for whatever reason.

So here's the deal:

We'll be spending the evening in our local bar in Glengormley. Anyone is welcome to join us. No tickets, no verifications, no questions asked.

Just a few hours spent in friendly company on a day when everyone seems to be celebrating something that matters to them.

Missus will provide her famous butter boards and nibbles, Dirk will provide his famous charm and if nothing else we both hope to provide something to look forward to to those, who dread spending their Christmas alone this year.

For safety and privacy reasons we will ask everyone who wants to come for their face photo in advance and will only reveal the venue on Christmas eve x

Well done you guys

Spent one Christmas day on my own when I separated some time back, felt it was penance and justification for myself to do so.

Each Christmas since has been better oddly enough in the company of wonderful people, new life mark II

I clearly did ..if you are procuring a venue for Christmas eve and providing finger food for people will you bear the cost of this yourself or will you in all likelihood ask for a donation, I think the latter will apply ,even the most decent human beings know that nothing in life is free

1. We aren't procuring any venues. It's a few drinks in a bar.

2. Bit of butter and a few loafs of bread doesn't cost that much to provide.

3. We never ever ask for any donations towards anything if it doesn't cost us anything.

If there's tickets for any event - we say so upfront as running events like the ones we run costs thousands.

4. To date we have run at least 10 events which were free to attend without any donations or tickets and will continue to do them as we believe in a community and love making people happy.

Please stop talking shite when you obviously have a chip on your shoulder (for whatever reason as I can't even recall ever talking to you).

My kids with my ex have a complex 50/50 arrangement where I have them Xmas eve until midday Xmas day, and she has them for the big meal and that night, and I have em back for midday on stephens day.... and then we swap the next year. We can only do this as we live very closely though and what suits one family wont suit another.

Ours is usually something like that just this year she's taking them overseas to see her family. It's just a once off.

It's gonna be strange being home without them but I reckon I'm gonna collect up all my stray friends who are not gonna make it home and have a nice old school Christmas party.

We can only do this as we live very closely though and what suits one family wont suit another.

Ours is usually something like that just this year she's taking them overseas to see her family. It's just a once off.

It's gonna be strange being home without them but I reckon I'm gonna collect up all my stray friends who are not gonna make it home and have a nice old school Christmas party."

Delighted to hear separated parents both being able to make arrangements around their children.

We swap year on year also - always with flexibility around the special needs of my daughter who hates crowds, even extended family.

It's a difficult time without them.

And the kind and generous offer of the OP is something I may have considered if I were

still single and lived closer

"We don't usually celebrate Christmas when the kids aren't around (every second year) as we only do it for them.

So how much are you charging per ticket then? "

Pathetic

Thats sound like an amazing offer, its a shame publict transport on Christmas day would be an issue, otherwise id definitely be up for that. I've not really celebrated it since moving over from Wales. Exept maybe an elf hat on the dog
