somewhere

So watching the documentary about Beckham on Netflix

Its amazing how looking back on things that you can have such a different opinion about someone now when you're older and wiser.

Used to think he was a prat ...actually went out of my way not to buy things he advertised so still use a wilkinson sword razor instead of Gillette

Now looking at it....he was just 23 when he got sent off

Think I didnt like him because he was a utd and England player but jesus he had a great boot on him.

Good documentary

Always loved watching him play and he was some player, says a non United fan.

Just amazed at his mental strength and resolve through everything, he should be applauded tbh.

It was disgraceful. Glenn Hoddle was quite happy to lay the blame on Beckham to save face

I enjoyed the documentary. Really surprised at Victoria too. She came across really well and was quite funny in places.

Absolutely brilliant watch. It’s amazing the different side of things you didn’t see back then. Must have been horrible trying to love day by day after that sending off. VB didn’t seem like the person she was made out to be in the public eye. Seems she just wanted to keep her kids happy.

wouldn't you like to know

Loved the docu.

I've always been a fan, although I'm a Liverpool fan.

His talent was undeniable.

I remember watching the match he got the red card and the press after it. Ridiculous letting one man take the fall.

I remember thinking, I hope that poor bloke doesn't do anything stupid to himself.

Now I'm thinking, imagine in this day and age. He'd have the fecking Internet to deal with too.

Haven’t seen and I doubt I will

The Beckhams have always been very cute with P.R and fantastic brand managers, I’d say the doc has been carefully crafted to cast them in the best possible light

I watched it last week. I am neither a football nor a Beckham fan but it was a very good programme.

I was surprised at his courage when he was basically pushed under the bus after he got the red card in the England game. Many's a person would have given in after the way he was treated by both the 'fans' and the England manager but he stuck it out.

Plus he showed how much Victoria and his family meant to him.

Fair play to him. Still not a fan lol but I was impressed.

Not sure if I'll watch it. I don't think I'll learn anything new or they will show anything negative about him.

I loved the Michael Jordan one because I did not know the whole story and they showed him with all his flaws.

They've always come across fairly grounded despite their fame and fortune. You'd have to give them credit for capitalising on their fairytale union and they must have a strong marriage after all these years together.

I always wondered did posh give him the hall pass after his affair with Rebecca Loos? Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest

We watched the first few. You have to take these with a pinch of salt because they are designed to present the agenda that the subject wants to present rather than a sound investigative deepdive. You don't get to where those two are without learning how to manipulate the media.

Good documentary, maybe one of the most accurate right foot I have ever seen, now Alexander Arnold can be the closest but still far.

Pity he didn’t enjoy my city, definitely he was there at the wrong time.

Enjoyed the documentary for the football content.

All the rest I just felt meehhh!

It's cleverly crafted to inform the US audience on their background story.

Imagine it's set the stage for the upcoming Kardashian-like brand Beckham show.

This!

The criticism and hate Becks got after 1998 was totally exaggerated as was his football ability. He was more a Harlem Globetrotter than a Michael Jordan!

Hoddle fucked him under a bus

One pub put up a noose with a mannequin wearing his jersey over the door

I'm not a fan at all but I enjoyed it because I knew all the characters.

Funny how people are saying it was directed by that guy from Succession which I've never seen but I remember Fisher Stevens from the Short Circuit movies and when he went out with Michelle Pfeiffer so he knows a thing or two about being in the spotlight as well.

And at what age does it become OK to throw a player under the bus? In professional sport at that level there are extremes of adoration and condemnation.

The whole show is a vanity project, oh isn't the multi millionaire pin-up boy great to have come through such a tough time and isn't his wife so misunderstood.. cry me a river ffs.

Definitely echo your summary above …. He got some abuse after that sending off from his own “English supporters “ …. Similarly a lot more respect for Victoria too after watching it … he basically went and moved from club to club all over the world and she stood by him … that after his affair with Rebbeca Loos

Does it mention all the millions he recieved from Qatar to promote them? With their dubious civil rights history and their treatment of homosexuality....

To be fair, how may people would refuse that sort of money?? I'm a United fan and admired how well he did after World Cup. They both came across as decent imo.

To be honest though you can't really compare you and me turning down millions to an existing multi millionaire (married to a multi millionaire) turning down millions. He's not exactly in need of a few bob.

I've no clue about soccer I'm glad to say so I've no idea what you're talking about. I just know about someone taking a huge payout to promote somewhere that shouldn't be promoted.

It never ceases to amaze. Netflix could do a series on Jeffrey Dahmer and people would come on here afterwards saying the poor guy was hungry! When are people going to realise they are paid to make ratbags look sound?

And make sound people look like Ratbags. That's where the money is in the media unfortunately.

They're not really documentaries, more fluff pieces. I'm not saying they're not good TV, but they'd have had full editorial control, much like Jordan's one or Harry and Megan's.
