I work in a related field and have dealt with many litigious cases. I would advise - strongly - advise against it.

Not at all. I turned it down because it was only an option. I could have taken it or just waited a couple of months and the issue would resolve itself which it did.

I may have considered it if it had been the only option.

I've had cosmetic work done abroad. I went to a clinic in Lithuania that I researched for two years prior and am glad I did. My mental health was suffering as was not happy with how I looked and had several medical procedures that I was waiting years to even get seen for here done at the same time. Its not for everyone but for myself it was the right choice and yes I would go back when I'm older for more. It's given me a new lease on life

I had 3 friends do some form of cosmetic surgery and 2 did nationally (one I insisted on as the risks and dangers abroad are serious, I know it’s expensive here but Atleast you can be protected if it goes wrong. An ex’s uncle went abroad to turkey and died on the table.

Would I say no to a nip? Nope. Do what makes you feel better, would I say no to abroad? Yes.

My one friend who went to turkey had a successful trip and came back with what they wanted. They enjoy their new boobs and haven’t had any issues.

Just do your research and be patient and prepared.

I believe people should do what they want if it’ll help their health and that includes mental health.

Never had cosmetic surgery and most likely never will have one. Not my thing.

For me cosmetic and medical surgery have to different driving forces, the first is normally mentally driven and you have the option of doing it or not while the latter is a physical issue and you have to do it sooner or later.

There's many Irish people seeking medical treatment abroad, simply because the HSE cannot cope. And if you have a hip, knee, cataract etc. problem and you can't wait another 2 years because you're in agony or unable to walk anymore, you can avail of the two HSE schemes that are there to do it abroad.

The HSE have sent a few up northern private hospitals to get breast reductions etc done in a bid to reduce waiting lists. A coworkers wife was there at the start of September for one.

Thanks for your contributions. Its a very interesting issue having watched the documentary on it last night. For me personally, l have gone abroad to Czech Republic for medical treatment and would again. Im on a waiting list in Ireland which l feel will never end..

Im also investigating the CBD for treatment in Spain. Due diligence is key and I dont take decisions lightly. Risks are inherent in every procedure but for me. Its medical and I don't intend dying while waiting. As for cosmetic... Bring it on...

We know that there was a lot of badmouthing from people we know after Dee got the first surgery. None to our faces. She makes a special point of strutting her stuff in front of their other halves around the town

I guess the teeth are almost always on show whereas other body parts that are most regularly worked on are covered up most of the time. I have nothing but respect for anyone who is willing to go under the knife though. The examples in this forum and others on fab are a good advertisement for it.

Big difference between braces and cosmetic surgery, one is non invasive and one is very invasive.

I’d be happy having some parts glued to my teeth but I’d be very sceptical about being cut open and having parts removed or installed, especially in a country with lower standards of practice and qualifications. And on top of that rarely having any aftercare and zero aftercare when you return to Ireland.

I had a Medical procedure done 2 years ago in Lithuania... 7 year waiting list in Ireland.

Everything so much more professional than back here, and cross border directive paid for it afterwards.

100% recommend going abroad after doing your due diligence.

Dunno where you have that from. There's two schemes to do surgery abroad and they're both still in place. The Irish health system would be even more f*&%#d up without it.

See it all depends on the research done. The clinic I used all doctors are extensively trained, it offers a aftercare system when back in Ireland and also had constant communication with my surgeons. Having a good gp however can make life easier if someone makes the decision to go abroad for surgery. I've heard horror stories of the NHS with surgery abroad, but ireland is far more supportive of those who make the decision to do so

I went to a specialist in the uk for a medical procedure last year, I travelled home the day after I got out of hosp and I found that a little tough. I had been looking into cosmetic surgery abroad and that experience put me off, purely down to travelling and being in pain and when your in pain you just want to me home in your own bed. I have booked two cosmetic surgeries in for Ireland next year. I had my hair done in Turkey earlier this year, not thinking it would be too taxing on the body and the travel would be easy, but I was wrong. Again I didn’t give it enough time and I flew home two days after the procedure and really wouldn’t recommend it (but I was happy once I was home and in my own bed and my own surroundings).

I think going abroad is a good option when you research the clinics and doctors etc, but I went alone for both of mine and not having any help with luggage etc was not something I factored in before hand, and it’s something that I definitely could have done with

I think braces and most cosmetic surgery are fine, most can be reversed anyway if there is issues (costs money obviously).

But in my opinion, those going abroad and having their teeth ground down like baby shark are taking a big risk. That's permanent and anymore work required will be very expensive!

Steer clear of turkey so many horror stories particularly about gastric sleeve ops ..people bleeding to death or dying of septic shock ..some have even died from minor procedures like nip and tucks, some deaths from dental work too , if it sounds too good to be true pricewise run away

Absolutely would do a nip tuck...I'm gonna give an aul go at the gym at some stage first..

Private clinics here are an absolute money pit,even getting a tooth out is an ordeal

Cheaper options abroad...again I've heard horror storys about getting teeth and hair transplants

Then bad news travels fast,if its too good to be true steer clear of it

There's bus loads going up to the north of Ireland to get small and b8g procedures done..

I know a few that have gotten new hips and knees up there aswell,

The waiting lists here are crazy

So I'll have the nip/tuck,make one smaller and it'll hopefully make something else look bigger

Hair transplant...

Teeth whitened...fill in the blanks aswell

How much would all that cost

Yes I would.

I ve thought about getting my boobs done, but after going to a nudist resort, I thought the natural look was just alluring, so I was happy to not have fake boobs.

I v also considered a nose job, and getting my teeth done, but so far resisted as neither are too bad.

Basically I m up for it, risk reward ratio needs to be analysed but as I get older I ll probably get a few bits done.

If anyone needs a discreet travel companion for the old nips and tucks, give me a shout.

I’d be a bit wary re flying very soon after especially if there was drains left in, and I am aware of people who’ve had serious complications (lost their implants and nipples!) due to infection, so you’d definitely need your GP surgery on board to assess wound care and healing, though they do have a duty of care even if they don’t actually approve.

After reading other's posts on this thread. I feel I need to reanswer meself on my own though.

Cosmetic surgery, is the same as I answered before above.

Mental surgery yes. I'll have to get at least 1 if not 2 knee replacements in the future. Hopefully not for a very long time yet. If thing's are still the same way then, with waiting lists. Then I'd seriously consider going aboard alright. Not without looking into past history. Hopefully that wouldn't happen for another 20+ year's in the future.

Look we’ve had this conversation as a couple and herself would like some work done tummy tuck and maybe a reduction with the boobs’

I’d have no problem obviously if she went and got it done but the question is why can’t she go to a hospital here that will have her medical history

We have heard of some people that travel to Turkey and other countries being administered penicillin when they were actually allergic to it

For us the answer is not just the medical profession but the whole way people are being ripped off for everything in this country

We have read some of the comments above and agree with some but if any person wants to be able too get any procedures done for what ever reason cosmetic or not surely they should be able too access this in their own country

For a reasonable price and above all their safety

I'm looking to get a Blepharoplasty (eye lift) done at some stage and likely be doing that locally but haven't done research into prices here and abroad

I rewatched the virgin media programme last night, very scary. The big issues seem to be with the invasive obesity surgery, and the hospitals using lower grade surgical equipment!!! Yikes scary.the cover ups afterwards.

The woman who got the gastric sleeve and the nose job at the same time, can't eat, drink and breathe at the same time.

Less invasive treatments seem to be less risky.

Life is more risky over there in general and human life is less protected. Less regulation in general. Well worth viewing.

Would research the surgeon and his work more than the clinic to be honest, they’re all going to have their own specialties and someone who’s amazing with boobs may not be great at a BBL. I’d be a bit wary re flying very soon after especially if there was drains left in, and I am aware of people who’ve had serious complications (lost their implants and nipples!) due to infection, so you’d definitely need your GP surgery on board to assess wound care and healing, though they do have a duty of care even if they don’t actually approve.

The reality in Ireland, both north and south, is that all waiting lists are too long; and the problem is merely getting worse.

There are many reasons for this, including surgeons' desire to do private work, which is more lucrative than the health services.

Horror stories abound about surgery and cosmetic vanity procedures abroad; but if I was in severe pain and had to face the prospect of years of waiting for years in Ireland, I would very willingly go abroad, after having meticulously done my due diligence research about the specific clinic and the named practitioner.

However, I would never go abroad to have cosmetic surgery; just too risky!

I would not have cosmetics done in Ireland due to the fact they do so little of the procedures I would not be confident they had enough experience. There’s been some serious horror stories stemming from the avoca clinic for example. You just don’t hear about it as much as patients are being silenced legally. I’d rather go abroad where surgeons are doing these surgeries multiple times a week.

It took therapy and a lot of soul searching to accept it had to be done "

Never worry about what others think you got something done you needed to get done & it's not something you even need to tell people if ya do t wanna anyway

Not a good comparison. Braces are not just for cosmetics, overlapping teeth causes rotting over time as they can't be cleaned well. Or you could be plagued with mouth ulcers from biting your mouth inside. Also braces aren't surgical.

I did get 2 wisdom teeth out under general anesthesic and spent months on antibiotics afterwards for repeat infections. I wouldn't do any other surgery now unless I absolutely have to. (Yes, I've quite the time of it with teeth )

Have considered going abroad for a gastric sleeve, have spoken to a good few women who have done it, abroad and in Ireland. And not one of them regrets it.
