"The hazelton clinic in Cork are doing diagnosis and would recommend. "Weird as they did a full psychiatric diagnosis with following concerta prescription and monitoring for us. I guess maybe they are fully booked for that now. Either way I hope your meds help!" Yeah I think it depends on the doc you get in the clinic.. mine was with the one who was listed on ADHDIreland (psychologist) and no one informed me otherwise until the week before ![]() ![]()

"Well done OP.. I'm fighting for nearly 3years to get my child seen to, it all started over covid I'm having no luck, I seem to be going to more appointments and getting nowhere ...he's stressed out big time and now he doesn't want to go to any appointments and is blaming me .. " Is this for the assessment of need that you're waiting for? It's shameful that it takes so long to get kids seen.

No matter that I had the child in private speech therapy from three yrs old they still wouldn't listen according to the health nurse and then the teachers the child was just "too lazy to speak, too disorganised to pay attention and just generally a bold and unrulely child that disrupted class because sitting still was and still can be an issue but since doing exercise breaks throughout the day the sitting still isn't as bad. I really hope your son gets seen to soon the diagnosis doesn't change much but at least it gives you as a parent a place to start on how to handle their quirks better

"Oof that is shameful indeed! The private psych I just saw and the public psych I saw as part of the new HSE adult ADHD service both said we should get the kids checked asap due to the genetic component. Fortunately, we're quite well aware and educated on our own different abilities and can spot and act accordingly with our kids and their school has been very open and understanding, even without formal diagnoses. I'm really sorry to hear your struggles - it's such a difficult thing to bear when there's a lack of understanding and acknowledgement from the very system that should be helping you." Ye had a starting point with knowing you yourselves are on the spectrum but when there are older siblings that never caused an ounce of trouble in schools no phone calls from the schools saying you need to come in such and such has done x y or z thats where my issue came in. That is how they came to their conclusion that my child was just "lazy, disruptive and unrulely" now since the diagnosis I can honestly say the schools couldn't have been more understanding and helpful but it took them a long time to finally apologise and acknowledge what was said to me at one of the parent teacher meetings in particular was uncalled for and to then accuse me of allowing the child to be "this way" when basically they told me "well it must be steming from home life and thats where the issues lie because it certainly isn't the schools fault we can't control your child"

"I have this problem at the moment. He had an undiagnosed sensory processing disorder and probable ADHD and litterly gets sick when he is in school. Yesterday he felt so sick he ask to go home in the morning and the school secretary sent him back to class. He ask again at lunch time with the same result. The school did not contact myself or his mom. We have made them aware of our kids condition so they know the score. He missed two full months of school last year and had straight A's in every subject. You'd think they could connect the dots and help." I'd be having a word with the principal of the school about that!!! ![]()

" If you have been referred to the CDNT or Children's Disability Network Team through your GP, they have to assess your child with an Assessment of need within 3 months of referral by law. If this is what you're waiting for and longer than that, then I suggest you get onto your local TDs, a solicitor and get yourself into the associated fake book group who have parents giving vast amounts of advice, tips and tricks for anything disability related...pm me for the details if you like ![]()

If they know your baseline stats then they can compare and see the effect your meds are having on your heart. It's normal.

"Anyone any personal recommendations for an adult autistic assessment? Thanks for this thread OP, as an intensely private person this is a huge departure for me to ask this question in such a public forum." Honestly not sure if there’s a public list for adults like AON for the kids. My understanding is you’d be going privately which can be pricey. We’ve a few family members who have done this as adults couple years ago within Ireland so can get further details if you don’t have any luck from anyone else on here. There will be waiting lists also to factor in. We wish you luck - Mrs

Yes, it would be the private route as I believe it is nigh on impossible to get a public assessment.

"Even (doe) this is a public forum. I feel like I'm gate crashing a private chat group. After reading all(nearly all) ye're posts to this thread. So it looks like nothing to much has changed in this Country with certain health departments with the Health system. Disabilities are still a taboo, aswell as a stigma about them in this Country. It also look's like some School's haven't changed there ways of thinking about certain kids & how to interact with them. Even sence I was in School. (A La Carte), I don't know what to say to ye after reading ye're post. Ye must be at ye're withs end after what ye went through with ye're Daughter. Going private seems to be the only way to go, trying to get through the Health service in this Country. You'll need very deep pockets if you go down that road alright. That's why more people stick with the public system, despite the waiting lists for certain services. So do ye have to go through a Neurologist to get examined? Any ye have to get eeg's or MIR's done?" Even to see my gp I'd to wait 3weeks and was told my 15mins was up .. must be a new thing can't be longer than 15mins to see the doc .. wtf like

"I've always meant to get assessed for ADHD. I definitely had it as a child. Im only self diagnosing, but as an adult, it seems to have manifested itself in my sleep deprivation. I sleep like a log when I go to bed, I just struggle to actually go to bed after some research I've discovered it can be connected to ADHD. I've bundles of energy, but would love to get to bed earlier! Mr." Its extremely difficult to get diagnosed with ADHD. Someone very close to me is a Psychologist who specializes in this area. I have heard it from the horses mouth as such. Did anyone see the documentary on Adhd scam in England. It was on the bbc a few months back. You would really want to do some research before going private and spending money on an evaluation.

"Two of my kids are in ASD classes in different schools. Each class has 6 kids with a specially trained teacher and 2 SNAs. It's been a godsend. They get the movement breaks, social stories, and study cubicles that really help. There is literally two kids to each adult. Our first was diagnosed via assessment of needs which was much faster back then, but the second we had to go private as he couldn't wait and needed the diagnosis to get into the class for jr infants. I am so grateful for the help they get and would absolutely 100% go for separate classes if at all possible as they get specialist help." It's unbelievable the work SNAs do, the difference that they can make to a child is truly incredible.

It's bonkers to me but I chalked it up to having a childhood diagnosis and lifetime history, being low risk, and pretty much "ordering" meds (which is pretty common in the States) No one knows you like you know yourself - it's important to do your own research and introspection as some doctors will (clearly) not spend much time with you

"I think the explosion in ADHD diagnosis is less to do with sham private diagnoses and more the fact that there ARE drugs that can be game changers for some people and so it's "worth it" to get the official paperwork done. For adults on the spectrum who have struggled their whole lives there isn't the same treatment available so they don't see the point. It's disability allowance if you meet the criteria and that's it. It's different for kids if it can be caught early then the early intervention can be well worth it. Parents need to fight like hell and have the ability to pay or they are shit out of luck. It's a national disgrace the delay in public childhood ASD diagnosis." My ex is a clinical research scientist working with the woman who developed the latest ADHD meds. She did it for her son and it's changed his life. A story from big pharma.
