Not what I was expecting….

Naas which is South West of Dublin

You’re just been to a coffee meet/social etc.

Was the person or people you met what you were expecting, exceeded your expectations, completely different?

I try not to create too much of an idea about someone before I meet them and I’ve been incredibly luck to have met the people I’ve met, I’m not sure if they’ve felt the same way, I have a genuine fear of disappointing people who have been good enough to meet me……

The coffee social that I did attend. I didn't know what to expect. I don't try to get an idea about something, someone before I go to it or meet them.

I'm the same as that aswell about being a disappointment to a meet, be that a social group meetup or a 1 on 1 social or private meetup.

wouldn't you like to know

I worry that much about people getting a wrong picture of me, well especially my size, that I send a "disclaimer" before a possible meet.

I give the person one last chance to walk away before wasting both our time.

It's been creating a laugh at times and an honest conversation.

I’m constantly telling people before we meet that my pics are mostly good angles and a good photographer and that I’m absolutely average in real life and they would walk right by me on the street, I get put off meeting lads who gush compliments at me coz it gives me the fear of being a let down in real life. In my past fab life I didn’t have the same worry coz I knew so many from meet and greets and they had seen me, but this time round the fear is real!

I never worry about their expectations, that's their problem. Some people will like me, some won't, some will be attracted, others won't. My concern is what I think of them!

Do I get worried or concerned?nope...not really. I just go and have a laugh. tough shit if someone doesn't like me as I'm not going to change

Get a bit nervous before any social especially if they're one on one ....good nervous not bad nervous maybe even butterflys in the stomach

It reminds me of the walk away from your mates at the teenage disco and up to a girl to say do you want to dance

98% of my socials are only ever to say hello, nice to put a face to the rest of you and the bigger thing for me .. their accent

Then anytime we chat in the forums or in messages I hear their voice as if they're talking

Haven't been disappointed yet as Ive never met anyone after just one message and have an idea of what people are like first

Still 2 women on here I'd love to have a coffee with

They always say if you’re nervous “picture everyone naked”

If you’re at a fab social or event then you’ve pretty much seen everyone naked anyway so there’s nothing to worry about

By the time I get around to meeting anyone I've been chatting for a long time so I've a pretty good idea of the type of person I'm meeting.

They aren't doing me a favour by meeting me and any hint that that's how they see the social and I wouldn't be there.

I've never been disappointed and I can only assume from the verifications they have given that I haven't been a disappointment either.

I don't get excited beforehand or suffer from nervous anticipation.

It's only a cup of coffee with a new friend.

I've always been pleasantly surprised. Especially being new I was quite nervous the first few coffees I had. But like Linden said above I was instantly reassured every time that the person I was meeting was a regular sound human being every time.

I’ve always said that if I don’t get butterflies when I’m going to meet a new person, then it’s time to retire!

I don’t think you ever really know until you meet someone in person whether there’s really an attraction or not so you don’t really have anything to lose! At worst, you’ve had a chat with someone new (assuming they don’t turn out to be psycho) and at best, you’ve met someone you want to get to know better.

We don't always do the social meet together, so if it's a single guy I go and if it's a couple we both go.

I have no expectations anymore.. a little bit of hope though. After all, as long as the tea is plentiful then we're off to a good start.

I go with no expectations way I see it , its two adults having a chat over a coffee.

But I'm very clear to anyone I'm meeting that my pics are good angles, and I'm a big girl, I've had one guy walk out on me so I'm very cautious now when it comes to agreeing to meet. Personally I need to meet someone in person to know if I'm attracted to them. I'm sure a few have been let down when we've met but you can't like everybody

I rarely if ever develop strong feeling for someone I've never meet before so butterflies don't really come into it at a first meet. If you meet and then realise there's an attraction in person it's much different.

Live all the different perspectives of a simple coffee social.

I'm less concerned about the photos- I don't do good angles, so in real people can be pleasantly surprised.

I do get some nerves, but I try to manage with low expectations - it's just coffee.

My thing is mostly to try manage the slow shy start I tend to have until I get a hint of interest

Its great to see some picture on a persons profile to give you some kind of idea of what they look like, but there are so many apps & filters now you just dont know what to think.

Its nice to meet face to face and see them in person, some have looked better in person than they have in their pics.

Never judge a book by its cover or should it be filter

I guess coffee meets are a dual purpose.. sometimes it can be just as a friend from the forums or taking a chance to have a coffee meet to exchange stories with a fellow fabber..

Fab peeps meeting at all has obvious sex connotations…

I’d only be nervous if I wanted it to go well..

Far far away

I not very nervous before a meet. I see it like chatting to someone in a train. I don't over plan or over think. That's why I love the flow of conversations, the richness of diversity in people and their stories. I try to be honest and upfront on leaving. Maybe a fab friend or a fabulous friend. Therein is the beauty of interactions.

Somewhere in Co. Down

Most of the people I have met have been pretty much as I expected them to be two were definitely not like their pics they aged a lot overnight

But I don't really have a picture in my head of what I expect them to be until I meet them in person. Most have been dead on and bar guy who was really pushy I don't regret meeting anyone I met off here even when it didn't go beyond a social.

I don't get nervous before meeting anyone anymore I did at the start but when I am meeting new people (which I'm not at present) I don't get nervous as we have chatted for quite a while beforehand and I see it as just a coffee and a chat to see how we get on. If we decide to take things farther in the future than yes I might get a small bit of butterflies before that meet.
