Hope this storm passes through quickly. Sea state will be a bit lumpy for the swim. Anyone visiting or competing?

Doing the full distance on Sunday but heard they have moved the 70.3 swim course for tomorrow. Just been watching the news and the storm warning is between 9pm and 3am so hopefully by 7am tomorrow it'll be ok. So far Sunday is looking good.

The people of Youghal have been amazing. Seen loads of offers of help to people who had their arrangements changed with today's cancelled 70.3. Hopefully that friendliness and support will on show all day for both races tomorrow. Up at 4am for the craziness to start.

I never like hearing about tragedies like that as someone who loves outdoor activities. The danger is always there.

The below is from the report on it, can't imagine the conditions if they got into difficulty after the swim had been more than halved in distance!

Very sad. RIP

"They were taking part in a 1.7km swim when they got into difficulties.

Both men, one aged in his mid-60s and the other in his mid-40s, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The swim had been shortened from an original distance of 3.8km."

The whole notion of iron man is ridiculous, pushing your body to extremes like this will inevitably result in deaths, it never ceases to amaze me the lengths some people go to, it's amazing how fragile we actually are
