And BOI will be charging overdraft interest rates of about 12% until you do. No such thing as free money

This has happened before the account holder will end up paying it back

But if it’s a quick fix you need then go again 1 min past

I simply fail the logic behind withdrawing money you don't have in your account and the frenzy that it caused. It's not that bank of Ireland handed out 500 quid to everyone coming along. Mind boggling....

It reminds me of the halcyon days in the mid 80s when I was a student and you could withdraw the single £10 in your account at both of the ATMs in Galway on the same night - those were the days...

Yup, I had BOI coming after me 10years ago or so because I had a few Euros outstanding in an account I thought I had closed down. Turned out the account wasn't closed because of the few quid outstanding, I think it was a card charge.

It took me quite a while to find that one out and the debt collector BOI sent after me must have cost them a multiple of what was owed.

Anyhow it was an unpleasant experience I wouldn't want to repeat.

I guess if you have nothing in your account you're already going to be pretty desperate. Some will have done it because they had an immediate need or use for it. Others because they'll hope against hope that they won't be caught. Others are just chances.

Or you could wear an Eamonn Ryan face mask and go get some expensive stuff on your card and ring the bank to say it was taken

Hanlon's razor applies here. "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
