Wrap up well, it’s freezing at the top. Bring some water and snacks, I had to take a couple breaks going up gets quite steep and the stones get quite loose near the top so just be careful, and also be careful on the way down as that’s when a lot of people take a tumble!

The section from the col to the summit is nearly all proper steps now. Only the last 30 or 40 metres to be completed.

Did it 3 weeks ago in 2½ hours including half an hour at the top.

Best of luck to you! It’s tricky enough, mainly because of the scree at the summit and the fact that it’s pretty much a climb from sea level to the top and deceptively easy; it’s no coincidence than it’s Irelands busiest mountain rescue call out.

Have a water and windproof jacket with you. The weather on the Reek literally changes at a glance and you will definitely be at risk of hypothermia because you will get heavy rain and gales on top, even on the calmest day. Wear good walking boots too and if you can, some good gloves wouldn’t go amiss at the summit because you will need your hands the odd time. And I’d second trekking sticks as well; the hut at the car park sells or rents them.

But once you hit the top, there’s no better sight in the world and you’ll be there to enjoy it all

"Do people still do it bare foot? "

Only saw 2 this year who were bare footed and on a pilgrimage but ignorant as fuck to the other walkers by knocking them out of their way with flags they were carrying.

There were a dozen or so last year and many still do it barefooted on reek Sunday

Hope you get a nice clear day for it. Fabulous views from the summit and a great feeling of achievement when you get there. Water , energy bars , phone and a small first aid pack in your backpack would be my suggestion. Have a great day

Did someone say they have steps to the top now ? I done it a few times and the shale at the top was the most difficult part for me.

Just take your time going up and enjoy it,take a break and sit down whenever you wish. Unless you plan on running up that hill backwards

It's much more doable now that it's all steps nearly the entire way up. Still a steep climb, but at least you're not slipping and sliding like before.

Where were you 2 week's ago?

Sadly never done it meself, not yet anyway's. Even doe it's very far away from me, here.

Sadly have something on Saturday night. Don't think I'd be in the form for it an Suday. Ya, they've improved the path way on it in the year or more. Ya, the weather can be hit or miss on it.

Good luck with it OP.
