Laptop vs Chromebook vs tablet: which is best?

I am looking to buy a Laptop, Chromebook or tablet but don't know which is best as so many makes out there now.

It's just for home use and need Microsoft Office and google.

Any advice welcome.

If it was me I wouldn't go with a tablet especially if you work on documents

I prefer a real keyboard for that

There's some very good Chromebooks or there now and if your not going beyond browsing and documents you'll probably be grand.

Questions to ask

How much RAM (more is faster) aim for 8gb if you can get it

How many years will it receive security updates for? Off brand cheapies are unlikely to get updated much. Trusted brands like Asus, Samsung etc will potentially get software and security updates for five years.

You don't want to buy a machine that runs old software and won't update.

Take the 3 of the same brand with similar specifications and you'll probably find the laptop is most expensive and therefore probably the best option.

If you're just looking for office documents then a chromebook will be fine don't go for a super cheapie, look for a decent sized screen and keyboard.

Don't consider a tablet, a pain for real work.

A basic laptop will be fine also, but a little more expensive.

You will save a fair bit buying online Vs the retail store route.

Working in IT for many years.

If you are going to be using Microsoft Office, to take full advantage of it.

I would personally going with a laptop.

I have decided on a laptop.

There is a Jumper laptop on Amazon deals. Never heard of that make

jumper Windows 11 Laptop,12GB RAM 256GB SSD Laptops,14 Inch 1920x1080 Pixels Ultrabook,Intel Celeron J4105 Processor Computer(up to 2.5ghz),Laptops with Dual-Band WiFi,USB 3.0, Gray.

I always had my laptops supplied by work so no idea whats good.

Those celerons are really quite slow. I'd be looking for an i3 (minimum) or i5 if i was buying.

Look for Lenovo, Asus, Acer, HP, Dell, MSI. Avoid celeron processors and not less than 12gb RAM

Personally I'd be going towards a laptop over the other's.

The bigger the ram/memory the better. You'd be surprised how fast it'll fill's up, even for just home personal use (I'm sure someone will say that I'm on about 2 different thing's & I'm wrong).

The cheapest isn't always the best 1 to go for, not saying you can't get good deals or good laptop's either.

Stick to the reliable names of laptop's. I used to have a Acer laptop, got a good 10 year's out of it or very near it, before it started to act up & crach on me. I've an asus now, the Acer was to dear for me, this time. Hopefully I'll get a long time out of it.

I'm not the greatest on computers, notbooks etc. I do have a lenovu 15 inch laptop. Which I use for work and other stuff. It's pretty straightforward and easy to use. Just make sure you have plenty of RAM as others have said.

Was like this myself and just brought the Samsung s8 tablet and find it very good using for working ..using windows office no prob with excel etc
