St Swithin's day

July 15th again, St Swithin's day, and it's pissing rain.

If it rains on St Swithin's bridge today it means it's going to be wet for the next 40 days.

Normally that might be a bad thing but on a site like this it feels like good luck.

Anyone taking on the just invented by me Swithin's challenge to have a meet every day for the next 40 to stay wet?

Does anyone actually believe stuff like that anymore? I can imagine people a thousand years ago when there were less records kept feeling like it had rained for 40 years, even though it probably hadn't. Surely in this technological era nobody thinks it's really going to rain for almost 6 weeks?

Doubtless but it's just a bit of fun.

Like the rabbit who brings chocolate eggs at Easter.

Is there a technology or app that stops it from raining 6 weeks?

Fire, once its seeds start to blow away it’s 12 weeks until it snows.

There's no tech or app that prevents 6 weeks of summer rain, but records show that it's never happened since they began.
