Ketchup, yes.

Jam, yes but only because there's only 1 person in the house who occasionally eats it so it's there forever

Eggs, I used to but just don't have the room in my tiny fridge.

Some chocolate but mostly not.

After Eights are delicious from the freezer

Eggs absolutely, they keep much longer when chilled, forget the date on the egg, if you put the egg in a bowl of water and it sinks, it's good to eat, if it floats, it's gone off

Ketchup, whatever, no loss, no gain

Chocolate, must be room temperature before eating for both taste and texture

Jam, see ketchup

Onions, need to be kept in the dark rather than chilled afaik, are you sure the light turns off when you close the door?

No judgement OP. Everyone keeps in the fridge whatever likes.

My list:

Eggs - yes, they last much longer

Ketchup - no, everybody at home eat it, so big bottle of Heinz is gone in max 3 days

Chocolate - only when it's warm outside, but again is usually gone in 3 hours since purchased

Jam - yes, no fans of it at home

Onions - no, no, no. When chilled they loose a smell and flavour.

All out of the fridge except for the jam.

For those who keep the eggs in the fridge saying they last much longer: how long do you keep them? Weeks? Month? Do you panic buy them?

No hard rules on any of those for me unless it's Spring onions (scallions) which should be kept in the fridge. They won't transfer their flavour in the way that regular onions might.

Jam... Yes, once opened, as per recommendations.

You could put them in a tightly sealed box like a normal christian would?

Even wrap them in clingfilm

They're not even as bad as sweetcorn in the smell dept. It smells lovely until you put some in the fridge uncovered. Jaysus, it's awful.

I grow tons of onions in my garden, in the autumn I weave them into big long plats, hang them up in a dry, coolish place and they last months. They just don't belong into the fridge.

Makes absolutely no sense to keep jam in the fridge if you intend to use it on toast.

The jam will be stone cold while the toast is hot!

JASUS I must be a very odd guy. I would have onions in the fridge. I'd have them in the bottom drawer part of my fridge. I get red onions, I don't feel the odder is anyway as bad off them, compare to the so called Normal onions.

I don't have any of the other items in my fridge, that said I can see & understand why others do it, have them in their fridges.

I always use the same rule ghat all shops/ supermarkets abide by, i.e. When in the shop /supermarket, if you buy it from the fridge it must be stored in your fridge at home. If it's on the shelf when you buy it, then you keep it in your cupboards.

Many food items don't need to be stored in the fridge in shops as they're in sealed packaging. However, as soon as you open them they are liable to contamination and should be stored in the fridge. Think of tinned foods, for example.
