Took 45 minutes. I walked home.

It's the most effective form of contraception available.

I've never had better orgasms. (No little voice to worry about making babies)

Women really, really appreciate it. That surprised me and I really can't overstate it.

The consultation was mandatory for me and it was very informative. I was really surprised how many things I didn't know about it.

He interviewed me about my motivation for it. I explained that I was a co parent and was happy with two kids and we were good to go.

Age and kids are the main factors in getting it approved.

Not every doctor does is as it is a minor surgery. In Galway there's only one and I just happened to love across the road.

Female tubal sterilisation isn't exactly a minor surgery. I literally popped over road for an hour and walked home.

A woman making that decision goes to hospital and is under full anesthetic.

There's a financial consideration in that too.

Obviously if you want to be able to procreate you'll still want to be a fertile male.

Otherwise there's no difference functionally. You'll still ejaculate, it's the same colour and consistency. Your testosterone levels don't change.

The male body typically reabsorbs 90% of the sperm it produces anyway. Once the tube is snipped it just reabsorbs all of it.

And lads, there's well published research that shows men report enjoying sex more post snip.

I got my tubes tied about 15yrs ago, to go private was a couple of thousand and done within a few days, public was free and id to wait 10mts, went in at 7am was out at 6pm was tough, but for me it was the best decision i made and never regretted it.......

Had it done a few years ago and cant are what the big deal is about.

In and out in 25 mins and little or no pain after. Tested 10 weeks later and no swimmers...

And the lads going on about condoms do realise that they are only 97 percent effective... what about the other 3 percent....lol.

Anyone in a long term thing what have finished with having kids should just go and get it done.

That's because doctors don't want to do it on women very often they try and get women on the merina coil which lasts five years as this is as good as having your tubes tided.

I got it done years ago. It was a very painful procedure, but I got over that, and looking back well worth the discomfort. My tubes were cut, tied and cauterised. For any couple who have had enough children, its the best option.

Had it done about 5 years ago. It's liberating!...Removes any concern about contraception. Sex drive was always high, but went through the roof afterwards!

Didn't think it fair on Mrs to be responsible since we've had our family. No need to be using coils and pills when the snip was a 15min, no scalpel, permanent, painless procedure. Cost €450, and got €80 back on tax.

Doctor has clinic in Dublin and clinic in Galway and Cork once a month!

Had snip done about 10 yrs ago at a clinic in Galway. Apprehensive getting it done but best decision ever made.

(And at the time the receptionist there was a real hottie. I think she might have been placed there especially in a weird sort of way!!)

Had it done after child number 2. Not a bother! Took the worry off herself so she stopped taking the pill.

My choice was made with my partner at the time because we had three kids between the two of us and her coil was causing her period to last over ten days. For years. And that was the least disturbing choice of contraception for her.

It was an easy choice.
