Or perhaps those are all old-person bands you named

flaming lips - formed in the 80's

apex twin - he's 51

wilco - so old that only 2 of the original lineup are still in the band

war on drugs - the youngest band in your list who are going for nearly 20 years

orbital - in their 50's

Don't you think festivals should be showcasing new emerging talent and artists who are popular with the young people. They have change with the times. It can't be the same old bunch of old men all the time.

Flaming Lips are playing at the Galway Arts Festival in July can't wait to see them play again.

Yeah this festival used to be good but the genres have narrowed so much now that it only appeals to a certain music fan. Pity.

I loved All Together Now last Summer and I'm looking forward to going back. It reminds me of Ep back in the day. There was no one I really knew only Groove Armada but I had a great time discovering new bands.

Shouldn't there be a place for both, though? I'm all in favour of supporting new and up and coming bands and music but there's space for older stuff as well.

(Having said that, it is true thatthe economics of the streaming-led music business make it much harder for young musicians to break through than before, and some long-established acts are touring like mad to replace lost album revenue, but I think that's actually a symptom, not a cause.)

The problem is having big legacy acts will be expensive, and will only appeal to the older demographics. Costs are up and budgets are tight. While orbitol were pioneers in their day, are they relevant to the under 30s? Are the attendees gonna know many of the tunes, particularly when for the same money they can have 10 smaller upcoming acts who are making sounds more relevant to the young people today? I know if I was a booker for a festival if be looking for new exciting acts rather than rich old wrinklies for the dads to wobble along to.

For me unfortunately festivals in Ireland are a bit to pricey and not well organised compared to ones outside of Ireland so I will always choose to go abroad

somewhere

Huge amount of gigs on in June in Ireland and plenty overlapping

Tonight in Dublin there's also 20,000 people at Lionel Richie with The Human League as support

Its a karaoke special and an older age profile of customers

Have absolutely no interest in new bands simply because I'm not their generation, people grow up with music , I'll stick to the music that l know l love..and l do hope to find that someone special that will turn it up rather than down or off...I'll keep searching.

I take your point and it's a good one, but I think it's only an issue if the older acts are depriving the new ones the opportunity to get gigs. If it means that up and coming acts can't get venues, or that young people go to the "oldsters" (ouch, this is my demographic now!) and then can't go to new acts, then yes, big problem. Otherwise, no.

To be fair, I'm into classical, so maybe I take a longer view! Beethoven's been on the scene so long that he's, like, well dead, man...

They are a great band and have never disappointed live. Pavement in July could be worth a trip west as well ...

I do see your point too... and I WILL be in the crowd to go see Phil Hartnoll in 3 weeks at Glasto, but I'm actually more excited to discover something new and upcoming.

Nick cave at ATN last year was probably the most emotional gig I've ever been to ! Grown men crying all around me ... including myself !

Orbital played the national stadium on Paddy's night... there was a few aul fellas wobbly that night I can tell ya I think bicep sold out the 3 arena the same night, but without orbital there woukd be no bicep ...and they still put on a killer show, the new album is great, a real throwback to their earlier stuff
