"Not sure what the rules are in the south but in the north wild camping is prohibited like the rest of the UK unfortunately unless you have the land owners written permission " Wild camping is allowed in the Republic of Ireland. (I'd say it has historic reasons...., no aristocratic land ownership here).

Or access removed because of the mess left by hikers and campers in the Mournes or around Lough Dan

"54°59'00.4"N 8°08'41.7"W https://goo.gl/maps/NGZF22KnmyvTAxsV9 I camped here with some friends before and it's amazing. It's a lake on top of a mountain in donegal with 4 sandy beaches. Very difficult hike up there but was worth it" That sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing!

Beaches are fine although some (Glasilaun in North Connemara) have signs saying it's prohibited. That sign didn't keep me away when I camped there though lol

Most land is privately owned In Northern Ireland like wise in the Republic. You can find many spots to camp north or south. We have on both sides of the border.

"Solo wild camping thruout Ireland is possible with a bivi tent that blends into the landscape; fires and lights attract attention, so are highly inadvisable. Waiting until near dusk before choosing a location is the ideal approach. What causes problems is a large noisy group who have a campfire and choose a visible location near a public road. There are really excellent small tents available that weigh next to nothing and have DPM (disruptive pattern material) camouflage. Leaving a mess behind and aggressive contact with local farmers merely spoils it for every who follows afterwards. The loss of the Zig zag route is a case in point. " To be honest this sounds more like someone who does a bit of poaching lol or wanted to be in the military
