A few days ago, I was watching Jerry Springer shows, when he was at the peak of his fame; an I have just learned that he has passed away.

The programme that he did, tracing his own family's tragic history was heart wrenching.

A multiskilled broadcaster and politician.

Ya, I heard that today alright. I hardly seen any of his show's. The bits I've seen, it was some show alright.

It was certainly entertaining alright.

Met him a few years back. Quick chat but he seemed like a very normal person considering his fame.

Jerry Springer devised and presented a TV format that lasted almost thirty years and spawned multiple TV imitators worldwide; it did exploit vulnerable US trash who wanted their 15 minutes of fame, but it must have had the measure of the lowest common denominator in the US and broadcast 5000 shows directly and hundreds of thousands in syndication.

Jerry made a fortune from the format, which at times was excruciatingly trashy.

A very clever former mayor politician and entrepreneur.

A creep who made a career out of manipulating and exploiting people who weren’t able to make suitable decisions for themselves. Will be consigned to the dustbin of exploitative tv. Good riddance

There are vulnerable US people and what's clever about exploitation?

Jerry Springer's show is similar to the very worst of the TV talent show auditions, wherein some people do not realise how utterly foolish they look; I think it is the human equivalent of bear baiting and bull baiting before those forms of so-called entertainment were made illegal.

The audiences were just as awful as the people on the stage; goading them to fight.

He became an entrepreneur after his political career faltered in Ohio, where he was the Mayor in the city of Cincinnati; he gauged the Zeitgeist of the time perfectly and made a huge fortune from a public circus, that was broadcast worldwide.

Jerry Springer expertly exploited the covert schadenfreude that exists in many people; a delight in witnessing the misfortune of others.

It was hilarious to watch dim Americans being goaded into making public fools of themselves; but then the USA is a different and multifaceted culture that is hard to get a handle on

Essentially, Jerry ran a freak show, that was able to be broadcast and then repeated endlessly until it fell out of favour in 2018 and was ended.

I wonder what Jerry died from; he always looked remarkably healthy, well into his seventies?

I would also like to think your more compassionate than some of the posted in this treat ... I would imagine its only hilarious to watch someone take advantage of people who struggle in society... if you think your better

In all conscience, I could not done what Jerry did to the guests on his shows; I am the sort of person who would have taken them to one side and told them how they were about to be publicly exploited and exploited; but they were paid volunteers and it was funny.

You can be sure he did but the people he used were not in a position to refuse the money

Which I can’t imagine that it would have paid for a lot a house or maybe even a decent car

He’s gone that’s the way life works some will love you others will dislike what you have done

Such is life
