Your slow set….

Jump to newest

By *inden OP   Man

Naas which is South West of Dublin

From your younger years, when those hoping for an outside chance of a shift would parade themselves on a dance floor, in couples, perhaps in a local hall, so absolutely everyone could have a good gawk as they slowly moved around in ever dizzying circles…

What songs do you remember the DJ was playing then, what were your favourites, and what would be on your list now?

"Linden is this not from the lounge

I very rarely make if from the bar to the lounge, I’ve been told there’s a lot of theft over there, I don’t want to take any chances…..

But I have to admit, I picked up a guitar when I first saw “More than words” - Extreme, mentioned above…….

I absolutely feckin hate that Extreme song and would immediately leave the dance floor if it came on, regardless of how hot/horny she might have been!

Sorry, forgot to add that the reprieve was Toni Braxton - You're Making Me High, which encouraged serious hip movements

I don't remember any, was always the girl left sobbing to herself in the corner.

Don't listen to music really these days, occasionally himself will put on something random and lead me around the kitchen for a smooch (only when there's no kids around to render nauseous)

So when I was a lad ....the slow set consisted of slow rock songs that turned fast at the end

"Free as a bird" was one I remember

Then as I got older

How deep is your love by The Bee Gee's was huge

Then older still....nightclubs with the slow set at the end

Everything by Whitney Huston

George Michael....Careless Whisper

Wherever I lay my hat ..Paul young

Prince ....Purple Rain

Meat Loaf... Two out of three.

Bobby Goldsboro... Honey (awful)

Frank Sinatra... My Way. I only remember this one from a very specific nightclub in Sligo as I got punched by a mad lad who didn't like me dancing with what he thought was his girlfriend for the last dance of the night. They always played it as the last track of the night.

The Bangles... Eternal Flame

Chris De Burgh... Lady in red

Phil Collins... Coming in the air tonight. In one nightclub I used to frequent, the crowd would sing "I can feel it coming in your hair tonight, oh lord" every time that line came around.

Foreigner.. I wanna know what love is.

Ah, blissful memories.
