Sligo

No matter what way I take photos, edits etc, I'm never happy with my profile pics.

A combination of not being very good-looking, I'm 50yrs now, and my once reasonably athletic body beginning to sag, makes my attempts at good profile pics very frustrating.

I'm not ashamed of my body, I accept me for whom I am, but jesus I'm shite at taking a good photo.

Are they any amateur photographers out there that would be willing to take some good profile pics sometime? For a reasonable rate if need be.

They don't have to be professional looking, just to a standard beyond my own attempts.

I'm based in West of Ireland but travel to Dublin 4/5 times a year.

The selfi timer on your phone is a great tool it's what i use on all my photos, just look at some male profiles on here for some inspiration and tips on what looks good

Thanks Ms Lolly.

I'm figuring background plays a part in a good photo also.

I don't feel comfortable taking photos at home - some new decor needed in most parts and also it provides identifiers.

I'm away next week in a hotel, so will give it another go.

See if I can get some improvements

There's a few free photo apps you can download that can blur out backgrounds or other objects in photos you don't like or want to be shown, there easy use and very effective.....

As Lolly said ,self timer on phone is great and try and have an uncluttered background,perhaps a pic infront of a plain white door or similar, You ll probably have to experiment with lots of different angels etc and expect to delete lots of the pics before your happy with a few .Good luck OP

Middle of mayo n peaceful tranquility

I don’t know about other people’s experiences but hell I take loads of photos before I get a fairly decent one . It’s all lighting , angles and luck lol

Hotels can be very inspirational for pictures, im hoping to have fun with the camera in a few weeks time when im away for the weekend in one

Most of my pics on previous profiles were rubbish and were too bright or looked washed out.

That's why I looked at ways of adjusting the lighting using various apps when I started taking pics for this profile.

Once you get the hang of it, it's all very straightforward.

Cropping the crap out can make a big difference too but be careful.

Snip too much and you lose context.

Another useful tip:

Take photos with your clothes on if you're not happy with some parts of your body.

You don't need to be naked here.

A lot of very attractive photos can be taken with a nice suit on, nice fitting jeans, unbuttoned shirt etc.

We are all human and have our insecurities.

As people above said too - it does take very many photos until you get one you're happy with.

A bit of time and effort rather than snapping and rushing will make a huge difference no doubt.

Good lighting is half the battle (window on your back when shooting in a mirror will make the pic too dark). If using a mirror, remove all items in front (keys, kettle, glasses,...), they add nothing and take away from what you are shooting.
