"What y'all think about 15 minute cities? Will they work or not?" Dystopian concept . Remember when they had us locked down to a five mile radius?

"The 15 minute city is a concept taken from continental Europe. It’ll never work or take decades to introduce to Irish cities due to poor planning and poor public transport.." You summed it up neatly. The concept is ideally applied when (re-)planning and (re-)building whole areas. It's also referred to as interdisciplinary urban planning, unfortunately I cannot see it happen in Ireland, the joint up thinking is just not there. We could start though with providing excellent public schools troughout so that kids just go to the nearest school and nobody feels the need to ship their children across the city into a better private/public school. Would hugely cut down on traffic.

"The latest conspiracy theory nonsense " Not sure where you see a conspiracy here. It's a planning concept. Your comment is a widely used slur often applied when something makes sense but doesn't fit into the neoliberal agenda.

"This idea already works very well in Ireland. About half the population lives happily within 15 minutes of work, shops, schools, sports facilities etc. but it's not in cities its in small towns and villages throughout the country. Develop the regions not the cities. Decentralisation worked very well when it was a government policy. " Unfortunately the economic crash of 09 put a stop to governments plans for decentralisation

"It’s a great idea to have amenities close to us , and to stop needless travel . " Its a total mind change in limerick there is a suburb with primary schools and secondary schools a shopping center an industrial or enterprise center as we now call them and try, cycle lanes, broad sidewalks possible the best serviced area wuth publis trans port in this rural city yet try drive trough that area at school time its ridiculus lines of cars trying to drop kids to school the car park for the shopping center is bigger than the center It need a big push from goverment to chabge the mind set provide bike parks at schools instead of drive trough drop off, for primary schools encourage walking trains to and from schools once kids get used to it, it becomes the norm Its sunday dont start me

The large new pharmaceutical plant being planned for Raheen is a welcome source of employment but can only add to the current traffic congestion. It could just as easily be located near one of the county towns.

"The 15-minute city is an urban planning concept in which most daily necessities and services, such as work, shopping, education, healthcare, and leisure can be easily reached by a 15-minute walk or bike ride from any point in the city. This approach aims to reduce car dependency, promote healthy and sustainable living, and improve wellbeing and quality of life for city dwellers. ^^^^ from wiki ^^^^ It seems like the stuff of fantasy world " -------- Sounds like a lockdown in the name of "reducing carbon emissions" to me I grew up with Catholic guilt thrown at me from an early age and thought I'd turned a corner and made good progress ending up here with you lovely people ... Anyway to then hear about tripe of 15 minute cities, zones and restricting ... I mean "controlling" our freedom and civil liberties in the interests of "saving the planet" Absolute nonsense... Rant over

Just make sure to have your paperwork and ID handy and don't make eye contact or smile too much to the enquiring gent ?? 15 minutes / 5 km is the same idea under another name... Only this ones "better" that the last one

"Well the fact thar the whole concept (even if they had all the infrastructure in place in each zone) is aimed at restricted movement and freedom of travel worries me. They are trying to force you into giving up your means of travel to get long distances and rely in local transport and part of the concept is to introduce tarrifs you have to pay to go out of your zone......sounds great doesn't it! They basically want to box you into an area and keep you there " Travel tarrifs already exists. Toll charges to drive from one area to the next. Parking charges when you get there. Road tax and fuel taxes when you drive from your home zone to another place. Train and bus fares.....

"I do laugh at actual funny things but that stuff was absolutely tragic Anyway, the 15 minute city thing. A great idea and every large town or city should be much less reliant on car usage. Sadly, this is Ireland, our whole transport network is awful and I have no confidence in it ever getting going." Maybe you should run for government much more serious issues to be dealt with and we need someone like you That has all the answers and no sense of humor typical politician
