I remember the days where one ticket was a couple of quid

At least I got one over on the introduction of card only parking payment. Neither of my cards would work so they had to let me out for free

What do you remember costing a fraction of how much it is in this day and age?

I remember being in the States in 1998 and petrol was 95 cents for a gallon. It jumped to just over a dollar and there was a massive outcry all over the media and protests at garages. Within a week it was back below a dollar.

Went back 2 years later and it was $1.40 which was still ridiculous in comparison to what we were paying here at the time.

Cinema ticket prices are gone crazy, do not buy any food in there either, have them with you if possible , the same stuff can be bought way cheaper outside , it's bad enough having to pay the prices for the cinema ticket other than also being screwed for food in there...l completely understand it's not always the case and sometimes a cinema treat is a cinema treat...but there's no doubt about it ..the cost of going is gone out of control.

1984 and a pack of 18 cigs was £1 in a vending machine. No pound coin mechs at that time so it had to be 2x50ps.

By 1992 that had jumped to £2.70 for packs of 16,17 or 18s.

Circuit boards in some machines had a max price setting of £7.90.

Just looked in the shop this morning and some brands are £13 and £14.

Loose tobacco used to be £5 for 50g and is now £25.

I'm glad I've never smoked.

Disneyland and Disney World were built specifically for the average working American family to visit.

The average American hasn't been able to afford to visit for at least 20 years because of the discrepancy in ticket prices and wages.

Bought a €3,000 projector about 10yrs ago and it's got about 4,000hrs on it.

Now amp, 120in projector screen and speakers cost around another €4,000.

So let's say €8k all in.

Average movie is 2hrs long so approximate guesstimate is 2,000 movies but knock that down to 1,500 for the sake of gaming and other stuff.

Currently a cinema ticket, for 1 person, in Odeon Blanchardstown for the Pope's Exorcist is €11.50. So to see 1,500 movies in my local cinema would be €17,250. That's not to mention the reduced price of snacks at home, the ability to pause movie when you need a pee break and the fact it's usually 2-6 people watching the movie. Do the resulting maths yourselves.

If I had a word of advice to give, invest in home cinema folks

Oh! Beer. My ingredients arrived today for 160pts of beer at a cost of just less than €100. Yes there are initial costs for equipment of about the same again but you have them forever so add say 10%, for this batch but it's really much less, so €110 for this batch. So 69c a pint! For interesting beers I actually want to drink, other than the shite flowing from the majority of taps in Irish pubs.

Last wedding I went to I gifted €200 (as a singleton). But it would very much depend on how well I know the person. That was my sister so I felt generous.

Communion/confirmation again depends on how well I know them - a godchild gets €50, niece or nephew €30, anyone else €20.
