The campaign by the Women of Honour with the Irish Republic's armed forces has eventually paid off with the publication of an independent report that confirms the massive level of bullying, mobbing and sexual assault especially by male officers and men of female colleagues.

Tom Clonan first exposed this abuse twenty years ago, but his findings were dismissed.

All of the armed forces are heommeraging staff and also having problems in recruiting suitable staff.

Any organisation whose raison d'etre is violence should not be surprised that violent behaviour occurs between members of that organisation.

Hazing has been taking place in armies and navies for hundreds of years.

Hazing in the Russian army causes hundreds of deaths and serious injuries every year; nothing is done to prevent it.

It has been an open secret within Oglaigh na hEireann for decades.

The Women of Honour are to be praised for their work that blighted their careers in the military.

Imo an army is no place for women, that might be a mysogynistic view but I know people in the Irish army who have suffered and it certainly seems like mens business

Why do you say the Defence Forces is "...no place for women..."? I would very strongly disagree with you and say that women have a a role in our Defence Forces and have made very positive contributions.

Perhaps the army should set up an elite squad of female soldiers specially trained to hunt down and capture the last of the dinosaurs.

I know women who are hands down better then their male counterparts in the defence forces

Why do you say the Defence Forces is "...no place for women..."? I would very strongly disagree with you and say that women have a a role in our Defence Forces and have made very positive contributions. "

Not in any way suggesting they haven't however any army is no place for sensitive people, I know men who have had horrid experiences in the army but prefer not to talk about it, I suppose it's a bit like complaining that you have ptsd after a stint in a war zone, you know what you are signing up for when you become part of a military why complain after the fact?

Toxic workplaces where bullying, mobbing, abuse, assaults, harassment and a failure to acknowledge the equal contributions of both genders will suffer from a flight of talent and an inability to recruit suitable people to sustain the organisation.

The Irish Naval Service is currently unable to keep all of its ships at sea and depends on private contractors who pay better salaries to apprentices.

The senior officers must be deeply concerned by the validation of the Women of Honour's complaints.
