Tbf his choice is in the headline of a puff piece in the Irish times so he’s set his head above the parapet there

I assumed the article was click bait shite so I didn’t bother with it

What most refuse to admit is that they are bucking the norms but doing so is a steer.

They say they're being neutral or letting the child become their true self but they suppress some things and prevent others as much as they facilitate certain freedoms of expression.

It's a load of self-indulgent wokery.

With an innocent child at the mercy of it all.

The awfulness of such comments isn't in doubt, but anyone familiar with the internet - and particularly a politician - must see the folly of exposing one's children on social media

I’ve no social media so I’ve no idea what’s going on, would say he’d cop a fair bit of flak

I do think it’s a bit selfish on his part, he doesn’t want to make a decision for the child on that non issue yet decides for the child to put it in the public eye which is far more harmful and damaging

Paul Murphy

Murphy says if Juniper decides at the age of three that they are a boy “then we’ll say , ‘oh yeah cool, you’re a boy, excellent. And you’re free to change your opinion and you’re free to change your gender identity in the future if you want. We’ll respect that and we’ll change the pronouns that we use. If you say you’re a boy, then great you’re a boy. Or if you say you’re a girl, then great you’re a girl.’ But we don’t want to make that choice for Juniper. That’s for Juniper to discover their own gender identity as opposed to us to assume based on their sex.”

Murphy’s close friends and family are supportive. “I think people understand the gender roles are changing and gender is a more fluid thing than the way people would have historically thought about it. It’s an interesting thing, when you get the cert in the hospital, which says the sex of the baby, it says gender as male or female – when it means sex. It’s wrong. It’s the wrong word. What they mean is sex. They’re talking about their biological characteristics.”

Its from a series of articles about families that famous people have written for The Irish Times and not a news article as such

Irish politics is fascinating

FG for example are economically right wing but their social policies aren’t at all . Their referenda and public statements are clearly left of centre.

SF are economically left of centre but I am not convinced their social policy swings as far left as FG.

You do wonder if there is political motivation for Paul going public . He is not going to be correcting anyone who calls his child a him , yet he is gone on record as criticising misgendering . This is a huge issue for young adult voters and I wonder if he is after their vote. His role in the Joan burton car blockade suggests that he loves a ‘hero’ role for his fan base .

Most people will settle on one gender or the other

I get his point about gender stereotypes but that’s different from being gendered.

Not sure it needed the publicity but I don’t mind one way or the other.

Awful name though

The "it" thing came from the usual far right bible bashing shitheads it would seem. The correct pronoun which Paul and his wife even said in the article is they/them. I don't always agree with some of the things Paul says or does but I do agree with him allowing the child to choose and definitely don't think the child should be used as a tool to attack him. Personally think if you are to go after any politician go after them for their actions not their personal life.

Not as well said as Obama

“This idea of purity and you’re never compromised and you’re always politically ‘woke’ and all that stuff,” Obama said. “You should get over that quickly." He went on to explain, “The world is messy; there are ambiguities. People who do really good stuff have flaws. People who you are fighting may love their kids, and share certain things with you.”

Agreed. Embarassing stuff, and using his child clearly to try and mine votes amongst a certain section of the electorate.

I had to laugh also where he states hes conscious of respecting the childs privacy...and then goes and does a piece in the irish times about the child.

Embarassing but also drifting dangerously close to child abuse territory
