Hello!!

I'm going away for my birthday and should have €1000 saved. I would like to do 3 nights and stay somewhere that is easy to get to via train from Dublin.

I'm looking for somewhere scenic, happy for self catering and somewhere with fun stuff to do and exciting places to visit.

Anyone happy to name some hotels or lodges etc?

Galway. About 2 hours by train and dropped right into the city centre. Can do any number of day tours to Connemara or the aran islands from there or take a boat trip down to the cliffs of Moher which gives you a stunning view from the water.

Plenty of nice cafes, bars and restaurants there too.

Cmon down sure we’ll give ya a loan of a tent and a bike,few cans of Dutch gold and we’ll sing our brains out

You can cycle anywhere down here gurl crookhaven beautiful place might take a day or two but sure just like the add it’s worth it

Kinsale only 18 km from the airport there’ll be a lovely smell of fish off ya when you come back

And sure the one and only Blarney Stone there’s a good chance you’ll catch something off of the fecking thing with the amount of p..s on it

I'd actually go with Belfast...hotels are better value and staff are friendlier

Lots of tourist things to do and a visit to a few Game Of Thrones locations and Giants Causeway can be done on bus trips

Cork, Belfast or Galway I'd suggest.

Would it be an option to rent a car?

If car rental isn't an option I'd probably choose Belfast or Galway tbh..

When are you planning on visiting? Hopefully not now. Tis snowing

South County Dublin

Waterford is not a bad city. You could get bus to Dungarvan and rent a bike for cycle way.

Kilkenny is a nice city small a few places to see the castle. The cathedral or visit Smithwich brewery.

Belfast is also work a visit.

Thanks for the recommendations! I've already been to Galway and had a good explore, Cork too and Waterford. I might give Belfast a go.

I might go abroad too yet I haven't made up my mind but it needs to be cheap! I was thinking Paris or Amsterdam but I'm not sure.

I was just looking to see if anyone could recommend anywhere I haven't thought of in Ireland, as I thought it might be a little more easy going than the stress of flights and being far from my child etc.

Anyone know of any nice lodges or places with private hot tubs?

That’s why I recommended Kaunas . For next weekend for example it’s dirt cheap .

If you go to sky scanner you ll see the cheapest direct flights from Dublin. 121 euros return

1000 euros won’t get you far in Paris but in Eastern Europe it’s a different story

Radisson in Kaunas with a spa is under 80 quid a night

So flight and accommodation for a weekend for under 300 quid

If you want a capital city the likes of Bucharest Sofia Prague and Budapest aren’t much dearer

The dam will certainly take every penny you have as will Paris but sure look you have saved for it your choice enjoy no matter where you go

Saw an article recently about Madeira. Apparently the Hawaii of Europe and Ryanair flight from 90e return!

1wk holiday including flights for 300e!

Looks fabulous and I'm seriously considering it myself. Same timezone and currency but minimum of 18C.

The trains could bring you all the way up to portrush and depending the time of year there are buses out to the giants causeway and the Bushmills distillery or even Carrick a reed rope bridge

Waterford is lovely, Kilkenny also. Direct train from Dublin to both, book ticket online is cheaper and book accommodation early is also cheaper.

Definitely go. I spent two weeks there just after Christmas and loved it!

It's not a beach place. I only saw one golden sand strand (in Machico) but that hiking is fantastic and the bus can get you everywhere for about 3/4 euro, at least in the Eastern half of the island.

The capital Funchal is a stunning city. I'm definitely going back
