WHEN I GROW UP...

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

If money was no issue and you could quit your current job and do something else, what would that something else be?

(* remember Swinging is a calling and not an occupation)

Am not a Swinger or ever will be but am delighted to be what l do for a living, the only thing that l would swap is to be a rocker who writes and sings the greatest ever songs of that genre of music or a professional footballer.

Far far away

Travel journalist. Wanted to be a scribbler when I did my LC. Got the CAO offer but couldn't afford to live in Dublin. Still would love to become one. Marry my two passions in life... Travel and writing. Plus get paid... Score.

Newry Down

When I was just ten, the teacher did a survey of everyone in the class to find out what they wanted to be; I was the second last, the penultimate person to answer his question.

Everyone gave a specific job, but I simply stated that I wanted to be truly independent; the teacher, who was perennially angry and irritable, flew into a rage and told me that I couldn't be independent.

Thereafter, his attitude to me completely changed!

I have been independent and independently-minded for my entire life.

My dreams were changing at different stages…

Age 5-15: Pilot

16-21: Filmmaker (Genre: Soft porn, Coming of Age and Erotica) I badly wanted to cast Monica Bellucci.

22-24: To run a pub on “27 club” theme.

25-28: A fine artist (Portrait 69 of women sex workers to celebrate sex and passion, do a big exhibition in Dublin to honour them for their service to the society) I hope this will happen one day.

29 - present : Animator.

I got lucky and ended up doing just that. TBH I wouldent change a thing about my career. I've found the tribe of people I feel lucky to work with. Go ART.

But I did apply to be in the fire service when I was 19. The idea of working in a team of people all focused on a selfless goal. I still remember filling out the application.

Originally an architect but that changed to Graphic Design. Thanks to a cnut of a teacher and his destructive methods I lost an entire year and my place at art college.

Gave up on education and everything art related at that point and took the first job I was offered and have been in some form of management role ever since.

If money were no object I'd be a mountain guide.
