Bruce Willis ....a tribute

His family have announced that he's suffering from Dementia which is very sad news for anyone.

So back in the day he was up there as a screen legend...apart from the usual arguments about is Die Hard a Christmas movie his lines were quoted by everyone who watched it.

First time I saw him was in

Moonlighting in the late 80's and it was unmissable every week back in the day of watching tv normally

Any thoughts on his careers as an actor ( and a singer )

Always loved him as an actor, had that cheeky charm but could also do vulnerability. Upped the sex appeal of being bald. A witty interviewee. And seemed to manage a great friendship and co-parenting relationship with his ex-wife, a tricky one for anyone to pull off, let alone those living in the glare of the spotlight. I'm sure his diagnosis is as devastating to his loved ones as it is for us ordinary mortals.

My favourite 2 movies of his are Hudson hawk and the last boys out.

Sad news indeed, I knew he had taken lesser roles and done straight to dvd release movies in the past few years as he was forgetting lines, he did this to make money so his family would be taken care of.

Obviously Die Hard is one of the greatest action movies of all time but I reckon Death Becomes Her might be his best performance.

Loved watching his movies and still do.

New and improved medication is being developed and released and as our knowledge of how the brain works improve so will the treatments.

Don't watch the new stuff. I've a feeling he knew he wasn't going to be acting long and so said yes to every movie regardless of quality in the last couple of years to build up reserves for his family.

Remember his acting for what he was capable of when he was trying.

He had a reputation for being a bit of an asshole to assistants or people below him. I don't know how true it it.

I do believe he is a hugely underrated actor in the same way Michael Caine is. No doubting he has made some fantastic movies.

As you see them gradually forget who they are and who their loved ones are.

Well said as someone who's grandad and aunt died from it, it's one of the worst out there. Seeing someone who've you always seen as such a strong character and loved so much just fade away in front of your eyes is absolutely devastating. My Grandad spent hours screaming thinking he was back in his younger days being chased by the British. It was heart breaking for his family to watch and absolutely nothing they could do for him.

Brilliant actor, moonlighting I loved him in. So very sad he's only 67 dementia is a horrible illness, only last year my grandmother passed away from it.

The look of fear in her eyes, while looking at her children and not knowing who they was, a whole life as she knew she didn't remember losing identity...

He had already overcome difficulties in his life because he had a really bad stutter as a child and took up singing as a way of combating that.

I'll admit I haven't watched anything he's been in for years but I always enjoyed his work.

Fair play to him for doing as many movies as he could just for the income for his family's security.

Several members of my family have suffered from dementia, of which there are many different types, some more severe and rapidly progressive than others.

Pharmaceutical companies are now heavily investing in researching new drugs to slow the condition's progression, because an increasingly elderly populace worldwide means the number of sufferers will rapidly increase over the coming years.

Dementia sufferers become a shadow of their former selves and lose their core personalities; it is a distressing condition.

Bog you have just brought back a heart warming memory for me (Dirk). I remember sitting on the sofa at night and reading a book or playing with my lego and my mum and dad were watching moonlighting. And yes that is always my first memory of Bruce Willis.

Very sad to hear of his recent diagnosis.

Dementia sucks, apparently starts in your 40's but goes unnoticed, brilliant place in Holland called dementia Village, Google it, Bruce wills movies, sixth sense, pulp fiction, Hudson hawk...

Bruce Willis never really appealed to me for his acting ability; he is good in the original Die Hard, but I could not name another film in which he appeared; although it may be apocryphal, he is often reported as being a total AH to work with, as many actors, with very inflated opinions of themselves, frequently are.

Dementia, of all types, literally makes the individual disappear and the nearest and dearest will have an increasingly difficult journey ahead.
